How about a few pics of everyone's K5's with Soft tops installed

I've got soft tops on my mind and although I have lots of saved pics of boardmember's K5's/Jimmy's with soft tops installed, how about everyone post up a few pics along with listing the brand and what you like and don't like about it. Maybe someday I'll have a soft top and can add my own pics

Your top is an STC Fasttrac, correct?

Don't know what you have of mine if any so I will get this thread moving for ya:

Fasttrack without the windows in. You can see the two rear bows, not using the front one as my cage is in the way.
http://www.norcalbigdawgs.net/Galler...k/P1010180.jpg
you can see how the top snaps to the bow. See the unused snaps for the front bow.

Here is the little bracket that holds the bows. The bracket is mounted on top of the side rail the FTrack uses.

3 snaps on each end for the top of the windowframe.
Here is my old Kayline top:

See the red strap, I added thoes to sinch the top tight..reduces flap and is nessisary in full safari mode otherwise the wind will just beat the crap out of it.

Is that true? I have never been but I think I read that you couldn't drive up it anymore in 4Wheel & Off Road.

Burt, has your Blazer been in the magazine? It looks very familiar.

I don't think I have been in a mag. before? I have been on the internet sence 1998 so maybe you have seen me online..?

Lions Back is located on private property, the year I went up it the owner charged 5bucks to drive on it, per rig. I guess this guy or the owner sold the land to a development company and they are building houses near or around the land LBack sits on, so as of now no more driving on it...maybe someday it will be made availabe to the public again. It's not like they could move that rock..it would take a HELLOV alot of dynomite to blow that sucker up...

Dealer installed top on my Blazer back in the 80's. Don't have the Blazer, but I still have the top. Going to install it on the Jimmy someday.

Hey Burt, and others w/cages. Do you have any problems getting the soft top to fit around the cage? Is it safe to assume that it will stretch around a tall cage, that barely fits under the hard top?

Re: How about a few pics of everyone's K5's with Soft tops installed

John,
Mine had a roll bar, you can just see the support leg in the pic. The soft top I had was actually a little higher than the hard top, so clearance wasn't a problem. If the new style tops seem to be a little lower I'll bet it'll probably stretch over the bar.

I really like that gray 69/70 in the gas station...

Are these soft tops still produced (fastrack and Kayline)?

Good to see all the pics. The Bestop top sure looks better installed on the K5's in this post - the picture they use on their website makes it look terrible.

Sure wish the Bestop windows zipped out. Guess that would be pretty easy for an upholstry shop to modify.

My '69 had a Smittybilt roll bar in it. The bow on the front bow sat right behind the hoop on the rollbar. If you look in the pics, you can see the top resting on top of the bar just infront of the front bow. It did slap on the roll bar a bit on the highway.

Kayline sold out to Specialty Top Co many years back. Late last year, Specialty Top Co closed shop leaving a few board members orders hanging. Some got their $ back, a few are screwed. The only manufacturer that I know of now is http://bestop.com/

Re: How about a few pics of everyone's K5's with Soft tops installed

I would guess any rollbar that fits under a hartop will also work with any of the soft tops..BUTT you wil not beable to use the front bow or any bow that the cage interfears with..
Eventually I will only use 1 bow, the rear most bow, as I plan on extending my cage with a halo over the back seat...should actually make my Fasttrack fit tighter..it still fits a little 'big' even with the bows extended full length..

BTW ~ That grey first gen at the gasstaion is Greg72:metal:

Holy #@&/%!!!!
Some of you might know that I run a pretty big autoparts store. Shameless plug: www.generalstorespokane.com. So, I called my main supplier who handles Bestop and OMG!! I had no idea how expensive soft tops were. Its bad form to give away cost but lets say I'd be giving them away if I retailed them @ $799.99. :(

Thanks to all with help on the rollbar question, but I doubt I'll be investing in a soft top now.

Re: How about a few pics of everyone's K5's with Soft tops installed

Burt, have you thought about putting snaps on your roll bar or some elastic straps with snaps on the ends to secure the top more to your roll bar?

Geez, I thought the Bestops were cheaper than that! Guess I was thinking about the STC top. Hmmm, your K5 could use a bikini top at least ;)

Re: How about a few pics of everyone's K5's with Soft tops installed

No I haven't thought of that...for getting the flappin out of the top I have found it works better to pull the rear of the top to make the whole top area nice and tight. Using thoes sinch straps like the one pic of my truck loaded up rolling down the hwy. So I think once I have the rear halo added to my cage that will give me more support higher up and I should beable to snug it up from the rear..

Back in 1993 I paid $345 for my Kayline top.

I think I paid 600 for my bestop about 5 or 6 years ago from JC Whitney.
