Quick 62 Apache question

Hi,
My daughter just bought a 61 apache. I havent seen it yet, but it's a short fleet with a 355.

She wants me to install headers and a posi that the PO gave her in the deal.

These are the headers I'm looking at getting. I will have them coated locally.

What type of rear came in this truck? 12 bolt?
Any help would be appreciated.

I can't say for sure on those headers since I've not put any like those on a 60-62 with the x-member frame. I'd say there is a good chance they won't fit and you might have to go with some block huggers. Someone else will probably know better than I about that. Concerning the rear end, it would be a 10 bolt.....don't remember if it's an Eaton or what. It'll have a dropout 3rd member and also a removable rear cover. Probably the most common gears found in those is 3.90. The first year for 12 bolts is '63

Re: Quick 62 Apache question

Hey Jim,
If the stock front suspension is still in this truck, pretty much the only full length headers that I know fit into a '60-'62 trucks are from a '64-'66 chevelle. But the flanges will need a cut releave due to the torsion bar arms. Also they can only be installed with the engine out, a young kid here in town did this on his '62.

Shorty headers might also work with the torsion bars too, not sure on how much clearance tho. I'm running hugger headers on the 350sbc in my '62, and have no problems with the torsion bars.

Now if the front suspension has been update with a whole new IFS & saddle, you can run pretty much any header you want, and will have the clearance you need.
David
