Air bag help for my 86swb...

First off, I am new to this board... I see there is a lot of people on herre.... So I know I will be learnin a lot of things from yall...

Anyway, I am lookin in to baggin my '86, and I need some help... I know Air Ride Tech came out with a set-up, but I am curious as to how everyone else did there set up...

Bags is one category of the automotive world that I have NO clue about... So any advise would be great!!

I am not worried bout layin frame, (unless price difference is minimal) but I do want to lay low... I have a 3/4 drop on mine currently, and like it as a ride height...

Any advise on good set-ups?? Shoot me a price too...

If you dont mind, gimme a pic of what you are describing as well....

Thanks in advance!!!!

Ok here's my input on this one...

First off, don't buy a "kit" to bag your truck. Do your research, find out what you think would best suit YOUR needs, and piece it together. You'll be so much happier in the end. Second, my motto is "why bag it if you can't drag it"... what I mean by this, is that by bagging it to lay low is like going 85% of the way, and laying frame is the extra 15% you should have. Just my input.

Now the next step is to learn how you want to set up your truck. How many switches, how much air, what size and type of bags, etc. Theres alot involved in it. Check out www.bagginit.com and read all the articles and information there, because that site will explain it ten times better than I can right now.

jseifert- Welcome to the forum. I suggest you drop in the suspension forum and spend some time reading. There are a lot of on going projects being discussed there that you'll want to look at.

You need to decide what your limits are. Probably one of the big issues is do you want to cut your bed for a step notch? If you don't want that big of a notch, then a mild notch can be done without cutting the bed.

This will determine how low you want to go with the front. Laying crossmember is kind of pointless if your rear won't go down to match.

No matter what, you will need 8 valves to control each corner. You will need at least one compressor, one tank, and some sort of control system.

Air Ride Technologies is at the top of their game with everything they offer. They aren't cheap, but they are good. Suicide doors has a lot of bang for the buck stuff, so you will want to check them out.

What ever you do stay far, far away from AIM and Chassis Tech. They suck!

I have a front and rear roll pan... But Neither are on the truck yet... Haven't made it to the body work yet... Waitin til paint, which is a ways off... Want to get the bags... and wheels, then I'll move to shavin' everything and repainting

I am thinkin of keepin the same color... The glove box sticker says charcoal, but I will have to find out for sure... The inside (which hasn't faded) is super nice... If I change colors, I will prolly just go with black... Dunno yet

What's wrong with a 4 valve system only hitting front back and no sides? :)

I got several buddies that run their setups like this. Works great, and there isn't nearly as much body roll as anyone would think.:hm:

Alot of people don't like Hydros because of the design of them, but I think a 2 pump setup is a very good way to go. Just be careful with the lines... spilling hydraulic fluid is a biatch!
