Re: stepside tail lights
I tried to use these
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...y/IMG_3044.jpg but wasn't thinking clearly when I bought em. They are red on top and amber on the bottom. I should have bought all red as I wasn't thinking about the way our trucks are wired and was just thinking about how cool it would be to have amber signals..:( And short of rewiring the whole system I ain't gonna use em. I did however find an alternate option that I think will look good and won't break the bank. I'll post some pics next week when I get em. |
Re: stepside tail lights
I was thinking of frenching a set of tail lights in the rear and losing the stock ones. Don't know what kind to use. Caddys have been overdone and so have Vette tails. Although a set of 63 tails might be different. Think my wife would miss them?

Re: stepside tail lights
63 what?

Re: stepside tail lights
Corvette I bet.

Re: stepside tail lights
And what ever you do, in my opinion dont french them into the fenders, it looks ugly.

Re: stepside tail lights
I've seen the '67-'72 tails mounted in the fenders. I thought that looks kinda cool.

Re: stepside tail lights
If you're a fan of LEDs, do a search for posts by users EJC78 and 75silverstep

Re: stepside tail lights
Also, Nolowrider has a pretty cool set of early 70s Camaro tails frenched into his rear fenders...

Re: stepside tail lights
One last one.
This is what I have planned for my 78 stepside. I just know I'm gonna catch some crap about it, but I think it's a real classic and period correct look. |
Re: stepside tail lights
for some reason I think the 67-72 steppers have waaaaaaaaaaaaay too nice fenders to cut into them.

Re: stepside tail lights
I used the '47 tail lights in the same mounting position as the old square ones and they look nice. Simple mod and they look a ton better.

Re: stepside tail lights
Tail light pic's just like I promised...(excuse the dust)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...y/IMG_4086.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...y/IMG_4081.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...y/IMG_4082.jpg They are made by Truck-Lite. They will bolt right to factory mounting brackets but I preferred the look of the brackets I whipped up. They come in plain cast aluminum body or chrome plated for like $6 more each. I have since added "chrome" split loom over the wiring. AND-They are feakin bright for not being LED. |
Re: stepside tail lights
How 'bout using a rear bumper off a late 70's El Camino (built in lights)???? Seen it a few times and looks good. Strip off the rubber strip, shave the bumper bolts, and rechrome it......
