Where is it at???
I looked for a thread in the tech threads but no luck.
how/can you put S10 seatbelts in our trucks. I am very interested in trying to do this swap. I am hoping somebody can chime in and help me out. |
Re: Where is it at???
You're gonna need to extend them six inches or so (I used stainless plate for mine, but I don't have any pics) depending on your girth.

Re: Where is it at???
Krue... huh?! what do you mean by extending them 6"? do you mean you need to raise them off the floor?
|
Re: Where is it at???
That caught my curiousity also. The extenders are they just plates of steel that raise the belt off the floor. I have never heard of extenders before now, and I am a big boy to.

I installed some black seat belts out of a 93 S-10 in my son's 71 C-10 and they work very well. I made up new anchors for the retractor and relocated them about 6" forward of the stock location to get the belts away from the gas tank. I had to move the anchors inward slightly to clear the step plates.
(I did not extend the main belts as they seem to work fine for all of us who drive the truck). pic 1 shows the retractor location for the right side. I extended the middle belts 3" so that the belt buckles would stick through the seat far enough to get at them. pic 2 shows the center buckles as they stick through the seat The belts were attached at the stock shoulder belt anchor and I used a 7/16-20 seat belt anchor bolt for attaching the upper part of the belt. pic 3 shows the upper belt as attached. I would be happy to try to answer any questions on the installation. Jim |
Re: Where is it at???
i heard of people using the S-10 belts in the past, but why not use a set out of a 73-87 truck? I seems to me that those would work best since they are similar sized trucks, and shouldn't need any type of extender. Has anyone done this to verify? I pulled a set out of an 86 that i plan to mount up in the next couple weeks. i assumed all i would need to do is get some new seat belt bolts since snapped off the ones in the 86.

Re: Where is it at???
I am thinking the reason for s10 belts. Is because the availablity of them. Every Bone yard I have been in seems to have plenty s10's in them. The other earlier trucks are getting hard to find. Of course I don't like going into the big mainstream Junkyards. I try and find the little no name junk yards. Seems those guys are always easier to deal with.

Re: Where is it at???
I bolted metal straps between the buckle ends of the belts and the floor. The only hole to drill is where the drivers side retractor mounts, 'cuz the gas tank is in the way. All the other stock holes were used.
