Big Block Cooling?
so here's the deal, im running a 396 with big valve heads, edelbrock alum high rise air gap intake, holley 750 double pumper and mild cam in my 70 1/2 ton. Not to mention a th350 tranny (note:its not an overdrive:( ) and 3.73's in the back. Im sure this truck is gonna SCREAM at about 70 mph. Does anyone make an electric fan or does anyone know how many cfms its gonna take to cool this thing. I dont think ill have room for a regular fan and clutch along with a electric fan so i really need to be able to just run an electric fan alone......:help:

Re: Big Block Cooling?
put the manual fan on and put an electric pusher fan infront of the rad on a switch so you can turn it on when and if it needs it, or just run the pusher fan alone but i dont think its gona be at that high an rpm to have to worry about overheating it plus on the highway at 70 you should have plenty of air goin through the rad

Re: Big Block Cooling?
My 69 K20 has with 4.56 gears and heavy 35" tires and an SM465 manual four speed. I don't have any overheating issues and my cruising rpm's at 60 mph are about 2,500. This is with a 1989 carb'ed 454 with a mild cam, stock peanut port heads and ceramic coated headers. I have a 195 thermostat, new 4 core radiator and an Eldebrock aluminum water pump. I haven't made a radiator shroud yet. I use a mechanical clutch fan and do have an auxilliary oil cooler in front of the radiator.

Re: Big Block Cooling?
Lots of the guys here are running our Duel 12" electric fan assemblies here. I have them on both small blocks and big blocks myself. No overheating problems here. Here is a link to where you can find them on our website: http://www.classicheartbeat.com/radi...&__related.htm WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: Big Block Cooling?
I think you'll be fine with a regular fan. I have a 396 as well; with a new aluminum radiator, I don't have any heating problems. Just make sure your radiator, fan, and water pump are in good working order and you will be alright.

Re: Big Block Cooling?
a mechanical clutch fan is all you'll need.

Re: Big Block Cooling?
thanks, i guess im just gonna run the stock system with a 4 core rad. i can always add an auxillary fan later if it overheats. Right now i just have the pulley on the pump and dont have a fan/clutch or radiator in and it sure looks like its gonna be a tight fit!

Re: Big Block Cooling?
Are you running an original short water pump? If so, the stock fan & clutch will fit. If you have the long pump you may not have enough room.

Re: Big Block Cooling?
yea, its the short one........thank God :metal:
