Rear end experts -- please help!
I have a 69 C10 2WD with a 6 lug coil sprung rear end. I saw a complete 6 lug 3/4 ton 97 chevy (that's how it is marked, anyway) rear with the biggest damn finned drums I ever saw. It was a 14 bolt diff and that's all I could tell. Anyone know how much would be involved in putting that in my 69?
Thanks! Jason |
mounting pads are going to have to be swapped to trailing arm pads and your going to go way up on the gears like high 4's. You should measure the backing plate to backing plate too. Your also going to need remount the panhard rod mount. U-joints might be tricky since there going to be larger on the 3/4T, maybe a drive shaft swap.:bowtie:

Well, it's got the driveshaft attached (at least the rear portion) so that's good. So this is a fair amount of fabbing, huh?

way too much fabbing for you to want top attempt, is totalyl different setup, would be lik trying to put a 2.2L four cyl engine in our trucks
whats wrong with the 12 bolt ???? you can put on 2.75" wide rear brakes very easily.... that 14 bolt is only a hair bigger(5/8" to be exact) than your 12 bolt 14 bolt pro, however: larger diameter of pinion shaft would be easier to swap in a 64-72 dana 60 rear, but then youll have 8 lug hubs, unless you can find a 10 series 60, but thats not common under our truks. good luck |
What are you trying to accomplish
I have 6 lugs rearends 5 lug rearends 3/4 ton rearends dana rearends cheap in Waxahachie just south of Dallas |
I was just making sure I hadn't stumbled across something useful, in a couple of ways. I'd like a posi unit, my current 3.08 ratio is fine for now but the openness is well, open. :) I guess that means I have a 3 series carrier. What are my options for making this thing a 2 legger? That's the goal, a better ratio can wait until I swap in an OD tranny.
Thanks! Jason |
