radiator difference
Is there a difference between the I6 and V8 radiators other than core size?
My truck originally came with an I6, but was converted to V8 in the I6 position. I've since moved the motor to the correct position, and can't find a hose that fits correctly. I'm guessing the radiator is to blame... |

Is it the upper or lower? I had to modify my upper a bit to get it to fit, but I'm not sure if you're having the same issue. Hopefully my bump will yield better responses.

The only difference from I-6 to V-8 radiator is the width and thickness of the CORE. I-6 cores are 26-3/8" wide (header seam to header seam) and 1-1/4" thick. The V-8 cores are 28-3/8" wide and either 1-1/4", 2", or 2-5/8" thick. The tanks are the same from I-6 to V-8 (except the 2-5/8", they are thicker)
So, there should be no difference, except that the passenger side is 2" inches wider as far as the mount is concerned, so, that would change your lower hose location exactly 2" outboard from the stock 6 cyl location. Call me at work 605-341-6634 (I work at a Radiator Shop) we can talk about what you have. I can have you do some measurements and ask you some questions to figure this out... |

The passenger side saddles are the only difference. If you notice there are 3 holes in the top of the radiator support for the top radiator hold down (the middle hole is shared, either left bolt hole or right bolt hole depending), as well as two mount locations for the lower saddle mount in the bottom of the radiator support.
That is what makes up the 2" difference in radiator widths at the saddle mounts. The drivers side saddle mount location stays in same location regardless of I-6 or V-8... Does that help? |

thanks for the replies.
it is the lower hose that i was having issues with, as the outlet is directly over the frame. The I6 hose, has a bunch of curves and clears the frame, but the V8 hose is completely straight on the radiator end, causing clearance problems with the frame. I ended up chopping Half of the hose off, and getting it to work until i can get the correct radiator. |
