Checked my MPG today

68 long bed 2wd

350 performer RPM aluminum heads, comp cams 270H about 10:1 compression, SMI stage 2 Qjet, performer intatke, 3.73 rear super t-10 4 speed, 295/50/15's all the way around.

13.5 MPG on country roads, and back and forth to work a few times - and I wasn't trying for good MPG on most trips either :). In fact, I took a couple of trips with friends who wanted to see what she had, so you know how those trips usually go

I bet if I drove conservatively, I could get 17 or 18 with it.

You just have to be creative and you can get whatever MPG you want! :)

I look at it this way: My 68 gets 10mpg
My bike gets 50mpg
added together they get 60mpg
divided by 2 = 30mpg

So looking at it that way, as long as I drive my bike and my truck an equal number of miles each week then I will be getting 30mpg out of each of them :metal: :metal:

Just be sure of your math when your truck is low on fuel!

My F250 SD gets 14 MPGish, if the 68 gets anywhere close to that, and proves reliable, the SD is gone. The SD is fully loaded, but nothing beats the cool factor of an old pickup.

My 67 is getting 13mpg straight "city driving" and 15-16ish highway (15@80 and 16@60 :D )

That's with a 350, edelbrock 650cfm, 3.73, 700R4, 235/75/R15.

13 to 15 mpg is norm on our motors. Now what is funny is my new company truck is a 07 do*@e cummins, the new 6.7lt, any way, it gets 14 mpg.... They have come along way on mpg and "saving the enviroment, havent they?!!!! Forty years of this stuff and mpg has not changed!

I'm getting 13mpg mixed commuting / city driving. Best so far is 15mpg. I'm running a GM Goodwrench 350 / 290hp engine w/ Eddy performer, eddy 1406, Gm HEI, 700r4, 4.10's, and stock 16.5 wheels / tires. I've been toying with the idea of swapping to Vortec heads for more compression, power and hopefully MPG.

Any thoughts on the vortec heads?

Re: Checked my MPG today

I went to Vortec heads, a cam kit, a new exhaust system and my mileage dropped from 13 to 11. However I read the plugs and they are black from running rich, so I'm playing with the jets to see what I can do. Just changing the heads probably won't do that to you though.

What kind of truck is it? My uncle has a 96 dodge 2500 5 speed and it gets 18/22.

I'd call that damned good mileage, considering that your motor is built up pretty good.
