Who makes bigger front discs?
I know the usual suspects: Baer Brakes & SSBC.
Does anyone know of other possibilities? Maybe a cheap(er) big brake swap from an Impala SS or something? Any links or leads appreciated. |
Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
You might be able to search GM preformance parts. That is the only I dea I have for ya...

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
I think with almost 12" rotors trucks are about the biggest stock.. I have been looking at different calipers though, wilwood makse some GM III's that seem to have the right 7" mounting patern, they are still single piston though..

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
You would think someone would be making a kit that uses the factory spindle with a rotor, caliper and bracket where you could put big brakes on the front of one of our trucks without haveing to spend 2 grand. How much different are chevells spindles than what we have?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/67-72...25540786QQrdZ1 That is what I am talking about, if you could make that work or if they sold a kit for out trucks for that price I would rip their arm off buying some. |

The Baer set-up uses a larger diameter rotor that's been redrilled to 5x5 pattern & their standard PBR 2-piston calipers (aka vette calipers). But.... I really don't like the drilled rotors. There's no need for them in my application & I don't care for the 'status look'. I'm waiting to get a quote from a source for the kit (GT-Plus). I also looked @ the SSBC set-up. I like the look of this kit because to me it appears more 'factory' appearing w/the exception of the gas-slotting (which again I could do w/o). But..... $2400 for the kit w/2" drop spindles & $2K w/o drop spindles . . . ...... that's freakin' steep. And WTF..... $400 price difference for a pair of drop spindles??????? They couldn't get them any cheaper than a regular 'Joe'?? Maybe I should call SSBC & tell them Summit offers better pricing on spindles  . |

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
I think our brakes are pretty good for stoping right now, i just bought a rear disk setup for mine but the fronts are almost 12" and 1.25" thick. Unless your doing alot of towing, then you should have trailer brakes. Now if you wanna look good with 13 or 14" drilled and slotted and powder coated calipers then you have to spend some $$ :)... I would love to have those sitting under my 20's but for $2k i'll just keep my stock 11.75"'s..

If you could make a chevelle spindle work they are a bunch of kits out there like the one above. I want 13" rotors myself and at least dual piston calipers. |
Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
It just sucks most of the big breaks are so expensive, and thats for every car out there.. If you cant find a stock app and adapt it is big $$.. Even when you go with stock if it vette or sports car like most multi piston big rotor systems it still big $$.. Here is a SSBC install

Yes the 12" brakes work but 13" brakes would work even better. The stock 12" rotors look good up to an 18" wheel. IMO, after that they look out of proportion to the wheels 'window'. I really like the looks of the SSBC set-up & it would be perfect for me if the rotors came plated but w/o the slots. EDIT* Errr.... it would be perfect if the rotors came plated but w/o the slots & IF the price was better. |
Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
I imagin if you did enugh research and some fabbing you could get some stock rotors from something like a vette or somthing and made some caliper mounting plates and put a setup together. Not sure how much $$ it would cost though. I seen somwhere that some porschas had like 13 or bigger but their calipers were over 300.00 ea, dont know how much the rotors are.. Another bad thing about that is wheel bolt pattern.

I think the Baer kit would be easier to reverse engineer than SSBC's because they use the PBR caliper vs. the SSBC's custom made caliper. |

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
Use a stock disc machined down for your hub...

If you machine down a stock truck rotor, you can use it as a hub to bolt on C4 or C5 rotors. Then all you need is to fabricate a bracket to mount a set of C4 or C5 calipers. You can buy the parts rather cheap this way. |
Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
All right guys..... Who's up for CrBBFT..... Cheap(er) Big Brakes For Trucks?
I've seen the billet hubs that are available & seem to remember one that was offered for late Impalas. It's possible they required a wheel pattern change but maybe they were still 5x5. Of course, as was mentioned one could always machine a 1pc. rotor for the hub & use a slip on rotor/hat. Maybe we would need to search for something offered on the last of the full size caddys (post 2000, not pre-). Anyone remember any type of full size Caddy using PBR calipers w/the hub & hat configuration? Like I said, I like the looks of the SSBC set-up over the Baer, but 'morphing' the 2 together (SSBC's 1pc. rotor w/the PBR caliper) would work for me. The trick would be to find the source for the SSBC rotor  . If we could do that, there wouldn't be a need for the hubs. This thread is generating some good input! Thanks everyone. |

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
CPP's big brake kit (13 inch) will be availible in the next couple months. I spoke with them yesterday and asked if they were going to produce a Big Brake kit like what they offer for the Camaro and Chevelle/Nova. Like the one listed above on ebay. There response was yes it will be availible in the next couple months at the same price....Hope that helps

To me, their stuff looks like a Baer Brakes set-up w/a CPP logo. Did anyone else notice this? |
Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
Revolution brakes makes a Big Brake kit for our trucks. Here is the link.

Re: Who makes bigger front discs?
I took a mustang up grade kit 13" rotors & PBR calipers redrill rotors to 5 on 5 cut stock rotor off in brake lath it worked. Used the hub only longer wheel studs , cut caliper mount off spindel made a mount bracket welded it to spindel , Rear cut outer diamiter of axle so 13" rotor would fit make bracket to bolt on wear backing plate was about $1700. to do front and rear ,test drove sat brakes work good jv I work on stuff I dont type well.
