5 lug or 6 lug

Other than one more lug when using big wheels whats the pro's and con's from 5 lug or 6 lug.Or is it more of ones preference? Is there more wheel selection for 5 than 6? All input appreciated.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug

all new chevys are 6lug, dodge dakotas and durangos too, nothing is 5x5 any more so with the new car after market being what it is they will make more new styles for the newer lug patterns.

5 lugs are much easier to make disc brake. hard to find the stock rears to bolt in.

hard to make 6 lug disc front and take alot of parts hunting and mismatching. rears are everywhere. 6x5.5 is an insanely more come patter, toyota's, jeep's, chevys from 60-current.

Re: 5 lug or 6 lug

There are alot of vehicles 6 on 5.5", but most of them have a completely wrong offset, so won't help. Drums stop great but discs are easier to maintain and replace, also more consistent braking, less brake fade, etc...Wheel selection is pretty even between big 5 and 6 in standard to reverse offsets. I have changed every 67-72 I have owned to 5 with power discs and loved the results. If you have a 4WD and have discs, stick with 6, as off road style wheels are much more common in that bolt pattern...If you have any more q's, you can reach me @ support@hickmantires.com
