As i sit here trying to paint the bubble gum filled rust holes, I look at your work and say, damn he makes me sick.
As always, awsome work man.

houston69 09-15-2002 10:20 PM

Ok, for us bodywork challenged, what exactly did you do? Cut out bad piece, welded new one on ... what did you use to grind down your weld and get the two pieces to look seamless? is that a sander?

ebfabman 09-15-2002 10:21 PM

Ya know, I think I could teach any one of you guys how to do this kind of work. Its really not that hard.

ebfabman 09-15-2002 10:25 PM

houston69, Yes, cut out the rust back to healthy metal and replaced it with a solid piece from a wrecked fender (waded up in front)
Weld it in solid then dress it down carefully

Hey, I thought you were coming by the house this weekend? I've got an old fender from a '59 Studebaker and I want to see you hammer it into a rocker panel and a hood latch :)

All hail ebfabman, king of metalworking!

Kenneth

Longhorn Man 09-15-2002 10:54 PM

While I was never even clos to your expertice, I used to do this in school about 10 years ago. I was pretty good, but i was better with the paint gun than with the welder.
They tought us to mold 1/4 panels out of filler instead of weld on new ones...I was pretty bummed about the leadership in that class.

lotik 09-15-2002 10:54 PM

or you could not sped as much TLC on that grinding and just slap a little putty on there. then run a block across it.

ebfabman 09-15-2002 11:00 PM

LOL @ XXL.......thats a good one ....'59 Studebaker ......LOL!:D

lotik, it takes less time to metal finish it, less material, and less mess.... (for me anyway) but yes it could be done that way.

lotik 09-15-2002 11:14 PM

hehe it would be my personal preference.. heh. i'm definately not a welder.

ebfabman 09-16-2002 06:37 PM

dubie, none yet but I'll get right on it........:D

Cheyenne Super 09-16-2002 07:54 PM

efabman...

...what tools do you use for your repairs?
ie plasma cutter, tig, mig, anything else?
just curious.
I saw a real neat cutter/torch/welder on sat at the auto fair. I will probably get one before the end of the year.
This thing could cut 1" steel in 1/8" slices. For those of you who have tried this with a regular torch know that the metal would just flow back together.
here is the website http://www.cut-like-plasma.com/

jmanz69 09-16-2002 08:13 PM

Hey how much is that gun? Looks pretty cool. Kinda like gas welding for dummies, ie: me. Plus I want an excuse to get a tank/torch. Just be nice to have.

ebfabman 09-16-2002 08:37 PM

Cheyenne Super, I've seen those but never used one. I use a plasma cutter and a mig welder. I think those torches would be great for aluminum although I use a spool gun for aluminum. How much are they?

Dean23 09-16-2002 08:47 PM

Nice work!!!!! you could come up here and help with my rockers cab corners and floor pans whenever you want.:canada:

big71 09-16-2002 09:31 PM

i got one of those guns and it nice but i like the plamas cutter better

Cheyenne Super 09-17-2002 07:45 PM

welder/cutter price

it cost 350 off the net and 400 if you call them up.

jmanz69 09-17-2002 07:48 PM

Where did you find it on the net? I think it's pretty cool, but kinda pricey. Still a deal is a deal, right. $50 is $50 anyway you lok at it.
