Stereo Amp help
My son & I are finally about finished with his truck(pics will follow)
Well today when we were putting the stereo back in we hooked up the amp & subs & nothing! We have power going into the amp but no sound comes out of the subs. Now I will be the first to admit that I don't know squat about stereos. Should I have power at the speakers(checking with a test light?) I don't have any. It worked fine a year & a half ago when we tore it apart to paint. The stereo works fine when playing through the 6x9's & dash speaker. It's a 1000 watt Alpine amp. Ground is good(we used it to test power coming in) I'm just trying to throw all info I can out here.Any ideas? |
Re: Stereo Amp help
are the subs in a box and youre hooking the wires up to the clips on the box? if so pull the speaker out and make sure the wires didnt fall off inside, happened to me

Re: Stereo Amp help
check the fuses on the amp. Also check if the "amp wire" form the head unit is not the antenna wire, also make sure to test it. But check fuses first. If you have a nextel we can talk over the radio. I use to work un car audio so I might be of some help.
Also "working backwards" when trying to find troubled wiring seem to work best. Start at the amp then go back retracing each wire. |
Re: Stereo Amp help
Im guessing its the rca connectors either on the head unit or on the amp not hooked up or the remote turn on lead unhooked. Id start at the remote turn on lead. Your test light wont be any help on the speakers. Does the amp light up when powered up?

Re: Stereo Amp help
Is there a power light on the amp?
if yes, i don't know what to tell you. if no, then all you should know is this: you MUST hook up three wires to make the amp turn on: 12V+ power Ground (must be a good ground!!) Remote Turn-on lead (this is usually a blue wire from your head unit to the amp) As a temporary solution to check things out, you can run a 18ga jumper from the 12V power line to the turn-on lead. |
Re: Stereo Amp help
I hope I don't look as stupid as I feel. The blue remote turn on wire was not connected:o Kinda cool how things work correctly when everythings hooked up.
