engine help 6 or 8 cyl
i need help i have a 250 inline 6 for my suburban and also a 700r4
but i can buy a ls1 with 4000 miles on rebuild (wrecked car) cheap cheap what would you do ? i want to be able to drive it to show or around town |
Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
I would buy the LS1, regardles or whether I was planning on putting it in my suburban. If it is a runner and it is cheap, cheap, why would you not get it. First things first, you have to have the LS1 to be able to transplant it in place of your 250. After you have it, you can size up the situation. If you decide to go with your stocker, you can sell the LS1 and get your money back. There are many components required to complete the install of an LS1 in a '60-'66 Suburban, so this should be taken into consideration.
I never pass on a opportunity, if I think the part may play into my future plans for one of my projects, especially if I know I can get my money out of the part, if I change my mind on the direction of the build. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. Tony |

Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
the six is nice, but if you want to go to shows on the road, and drive it on the highway, I would go with the ls1.....
I had a 250 inline-6 in mine, but got a 350 TPI engine, and 700r4 to put in it....Also replaced the rear end, that will make it much easier to drive on the highway, and not rev the engine up to high.......my .02:metal: |
Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl

Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
cool thanks for the sug. does painless wireing make a kit for that ls1
the story on the motor i work at the local honda dealership and this guy traded his 96 6 speed camaro in with a rod knock for 300 bux and i was talking to him and he said he would sell the motor he got for it to fix it he got a buddy that wrecked his car right after he put it in for 300 bux and a race built tranny (700r4) for 150 so i will get that off him i was going to buy the camaro for 500 and it was in real good shape but we have an ass salesman that talked the sales manager to take it to the auction o i was pissed |
Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
If it is in a 96 Camaro, it will be an LT1. Not quite the same, but a lot better than the 250, IMO. The Painless harness for either engine is kinda pricy, but probably worth it in the long run.

Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
There's no replacement for displacement, easy choice, V-8!

Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
Screw painless, lots of other places on the web can do the same for less. Wether it be a LT1 or a LS1, Speartech can hook you up with a moded wiring harness for cheaper. Only a 3 wire hookup.
FWIW, 93 F-bodys(camaro/firebird) came with LT1/700R4, 94-97s came with LT1/4L60E, 98-02s came with LS1/4L60Es. |
Re: engine help 6 or 8 cyl
