Newbie with a new build thread

Well, I have been feeding off of your build threads long enough. It is time I share some picture of my beast I have come to call "BRUISER" due to the many parts I have had to peice together to make one truck. Black and blue mostly. A friend of mine came across 6 trucks and gave me two of them. One is a 1971 long wheel base gmc, and the other was a 71 chevy short bed that had been in a wreck as you can see. Well I know how you like pictures so let me see if I can get this right.

The dates on those first couple of pictures are wrong. That was a digital camera with the wrong date put in. That was actually about a year ago. I just finished building the engine. The frame was done till i decided to "z" the frame. I blame that on this forum, lol. I would love that drop front x-member, but I do not have the funds for it now. I still have a lot of work to do on it though. This is pretty much how it sits as of now.

Re: Newbie with a new build thread

I was talking to a guy I work with and he just happend to have a 68 front cap. I picked it up for 100 bucks. It could stand to be in better shape though. I decided to just get some new fenders. The ones from the cap were in pretty bad shape. The hood is ok, but needs some hammer and heat work. The front sheet metal was about the only part that was any good on the intire front cap. The 71 gmc cap had a good core support and appears to be exactly the same as a 68 once you remove the headlight buckets and add some headlight adjustment screws.

Thanks, I said earlier that this is the first vehicle I have done this much work to, but the s-10 is actually the first one I have done any work to. I put it on hold after I got this truck though. I think it will be next though. So far it has a triangulated 4-link, step notch in back, 4" body drop and I have done some work to the fire wall.

Yeah, Original is nice, but i prefer the custom, slammed, bagged, chopped versions better. If I had some rare truck worth taking back to original, I would. I bought a sawzall a while back and that is what made me start it all.lol

My wife is understanding too as long as half of my "projects" fit in my shop. I have a "parts spot" in the yard where I need another shop bay so I know I'm at my limit. If you stumble on another deal that you can't use, keep me in mind.

I have like 13 cars in my yard and I am in the city limits. It is only a matter of time before they say something. At least 3 are in the shop.
this one looks ok enough to sit out front
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/DSCF2689.jpg
this picture show some of them out back behind the shop
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/DSCF3453.jpg
these two stay in the shop, my 69 chevell and my favorite truck, the 61
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x...8/DSCF2978.jpg
this is my 1977 chevy with less than 20,000 original miles.

That is the factory hole for the cab pressure relief vent. when you shut the door it allows the door to close assuming the cab is air tight. most of these cabs probably do not need these vents.

Ah yes. The '71 cab. The '68 grille made me forget how it started. I've been looking at my son's '70 which didn't have the vent. My '71 has it but I don't even notice it any more. I think it got oversprayed when one of the POs painted it white.
