Post pics by setting up a free account at www.photobucket.com. Then upload your pics to their website. Simply copy the link they provide for your pic into your text where you want the pic to show up.
Good luck! |
Re: 1972 door problems
Torque boxes and rocker boxes are the same thing. Bad rocker boxes (I have seen them completely rusted out) will allow body flex, but even a Blazer with good boxes will flex to a degree. There's more than the boxes also, there's the front cab supports, lower a-pillar and lower b-pillar areas that can also cause problems if they are rusted away.
Good luck, Rg |
Re: 1972 door problems
Mine does the same thing. Especially after riding down a rough road. But sometimes they won't even open, so I have to hit real hard on top of the door lock & it'll pop open  All to say my rocker boxes are in pretty good shape, but the body bushings are basically gone. I think that's my problem, may be yours too!

Re: 1972 door problems
My 72 had one door that I adjusted and played with for a year.
An old body guy looked at it and in less than 1/2 an hour had it working perfectly. He put an extra shim between one of the body bushings and the body.It has been working great. |
Re: 1972 door problems
If you have your hardtop on, body flex should be a minimum with solid rocker/torque boxes and good rocker panels assuming you have decent body to chassis rubber mounts. With the top off, all bets are off as Chevy had body flex problems and had to reinforce the door latches for just the problem you are having. Even perfect boxes, rubber mounts, and shimming, you can still get some body flex with the top off so don't expect too much ---just enjoy it as part of the Classic ride! hehehehe
