Thinking reproduction grill for '52? Comments?

Hi all,
I did a search on the forum but found nothing - I'd swear I'd seen something...
Anyway... I want a nice chrome grill for my '52 suburban and have seen all the shiny repro models in all the catalogs. Anyone have experience with these? Fit and finish? Mine is in pretty good shape - it needs the 2nd bar from the bottom replaced and a little work before it could be chromed so I'm thinking it'll be faster and easier to get a new one.
Any comments, experiences, preferred vendors appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I haven't seen any of the repo units so I can't really say anything about the quality. But if it were mine I think I would try and fix the original unit if it is not that bad shape. Most of the after market parts are made over seas and the quality of the materials is not all that great. Also sometimes you have to do some work to get them to fit properly. I am fixing to do an outer cowl panel on my dads 52 so maybe in a few weeks I can tell you a little more about the fit for the panels...lol. We got a panel from Brothers and it looks nice but I don't think it is the same thickness as the original, but I plan on measuring it to verify.

did you think of replacing just the bad bar.... talk to jimmy at jimcarters he may ave a good rib in the bone yard...
and yes every pannel i replaced (it seems like them all) was diffrent than the original, minor things like the radius of the cab corners... so lower your expectations and you might do ok...

My dad bought one for his 1/2 ton truck and it fit really really good. I don't know if there is a difference but it fit good. I will see who he used.

This is the original grill and bumper on my 50'. Repo. anything I use as a last resort as I've always noticed poor quality in both materials and workmanship. This truck has only 70,000 miles on it since new and no body work to speak of. All the tin is original and is a lot thicker then the repo. stuff. (IMHO)

esll. :)

Cool truck! I found an original grill so between mine and this 'new' one, I should have all the parts to build a really nice original. Then I suppose it's off to the chromers... ouch.
