Good morning fellas. Glad to finally be able to post this introduction.

I'm John from Mendenhall MS. I recently bought a'72 GMC Stepside for my 12 yr. old son. The plan is for he and I to slowly restore this thing over the next few years as his first vehicle.

The truck has a 350 crate engine with a 4 barrel carb. TH350 Auto trans. It has a Vintage Air Conditioner in it. Power Steering, & of course disc brakes.

It was originally a 3 speed manual column shift and the PO swapped to the Auto. He didn't swap steering columns and was operating the auto tranny from the manual column. That didn't work too well so I recently bought an auto column on ebay from a fella who's probably a member here. I think his ebay name was my7T1 or something like that.

I'm a big time jeep fanatic but have already fallen in love with this truck and put the jeep up for sale.

Anyway, thanks for letting me post my first thread.

Welcome welcome welcome.
I can not believe that we have another member SO close to the house. I just got the final inspection on my house in Puckett and will be moving there over the next couple of weeks (days if my wife is in control)

Also, we have Chickenwing who is also in Puckett.
GMan is in Byram, Krue is in Ovette, TheCure is in Pearl, etc.....

Give us a shout. We love to put faces with screen names. Once I get moved in good and unpacked, I will be hosting a member cookout/gathering. I will give you a shout so you can join in.

See ya' around.

Hey Krue,....I'm building a job in Hattiesburg now. The South End Zone Expansion @ USM.

Actually I'm just the project manager. I work in the office. My nephew Andy is the on-site Superintendent.

Welcome to the board and nice truck you have there. What's the round black spot on the top on the left side? Looks like a large rubber plug...

Well....actually it is a large rubber plug.

There was a CB antenae there at one time. Truck stops sell those plugs to plug up holes where CB antenae's were at one time mounted then removed.

I thought that's what it looked like. We used to use those when I worked at the police dept. to plug the holes where we removed the UHF Motorola antennas, but they were only about 1.25" in diameter. That must have been a 108" long antenna with a big mount and spring. I'll bet the PO hit a lot of tree limbs and overhangs at drive in restaurants with that thing... Nice looking truck you and your son have.
