Big Block swap

I wanna swap out the 350 in my '87 for a 454. What kind of issues will I have in doing this? I have a line on some blocks, but nothing solid yet.

shouldnt be that hard..id say motor mounts, definatly 4 core radiator, it will fit in with room to spare, especially if you dont have to run all that smog crap..my 84 454 has more stuff covering the motor than my lincolns did...also you migth need another tranny..if you are pulling alot with it, get rid of the 350 turbo, and get a 400 turbo...also get ready to pass anything but a gas station... but i would definatly recommned it,, my next project truck, when i get done with the dually will be 1/2 with a 454...

Great!

Motors seem to hard to find these days, but when I do, I'll get one. Just building a cruiser... no towing with this one. Thanks!

You can use your original mounts. I did when I replaced the 454 in my 84 Suburban with a 350. You will need a 3 core or 4 core radiator with the shroud. You may also have to modify your exhaust, I had to on the 84. The big block manifolds on my 84 had a 2.5 inch outlet and the 350 manifolds I bought have something like a 2 inch outlet.

Come on up to Rhode Island...I'll cut you a deal on a complete rolling chassis.... it has all the parts you will need to put a big block in, exhaust manifolds, radiator, shroud, hoses, power steering pump, motor mounts...and you can sell the rest of the truck to make your money back. ...just a thought.

Does your truck still have TBI on it? What trans are you running now, and is the motor the orginal from 1987?

Yes, it's original with the TBI and the 700R4. I thinks it's been gone through though, it's pretty strong.

bulky - I be sure to look u up IF I get up north. thanks!

Are you planning on running the TBI on the 454? If so, it is going to be restrictive. The TBI throttle bore is larger and had bigger injectors, you also need the PROM for a 454.
