AD and TF air conditioning
dudes! just curious if anyone here has installed a "low buck" ac setup in their truck. were talking good old junkyard parts! i'm not interested in aftermarket setups as the ones i have heard were "bolt in" were far from it. i seem to have good luck using a combo of o.e.m. stuff. FEEDBACK PLEASE!

Sorry, my fault, his name here is GMC Jim, I forgot the space in the middle, he's a great older guy that knows ALOT about these trucks.

Re: AD and TF air conditioning
A/C is A/C, so just hang anything under the dash, pump and hoses will be the same pick the right condenser, belts and pulleys and you are good to go!! I had a old Frigking hanging under the dash for years works OK but the fan left a bit to be desired. Make sure the cab is SEALED as the A/C will work best if it is allowed to re-circulate cold air

Re: AD and TF air conditioning
Here I is !!!...... Never had a real problem with parts for the original air conditioing system...Many of the parts are interchangeable with GM vehicles of that era... evaporator, condenser, etc. Plus, you can save big bucks and also have a stock system.........Jim

Re: AD and TF air conditioning
Also, I installed my system and modified so that outside air is used at all times.... and never had a problem with the cooling of the cab...Several advantages to using outside air. The flapper valve doors can be sealed or removed so that there is no air leakage, in other words all the air has to go thru the evaporator or heater core...Also, allows mixture of heated air with aircondioned air, giving excellent defrost capabilities. The air in the cab is always fresh and usuing outside air as a source is a must if you or your passengers smoke....will give more details if you wish............. Jim

Re: AD and TF air conditioning
Great info Jim, I might have to think about doing it to my truck one of these days, after the new seat gets re-covered/re-foamed, after I re-build the posi unit I bought off of e-bay, then start searching for a good 700R-4, & on & on & on.
