88 Blazer EGR issues
 

I have an 88 blazer project in the works. i am at the point of putting the new EGR valve on the motor. the question i have is which orifice do i put in place. My motor is a 79' block, 88 TBI intake, 88 body and wiring harness. everything else is being connected like the blazer is a stock 88. the part instructions gave me " OE stamping number" to cross with the new part washer to put back in. if the stamping number is from the block... can anyone give me the number for an 88 block so i can match that to a washer and put it in. Thank you very much!!!!

I am confused on what you are asking. The EGR valve goes on the passenger side of the engine basically behind the TBI.

i am askin how i find out which washer from the pile that was given with the new one goes in between the EGR and the intake? there are several washers and i do not want to put the wrong one in.

The non GM aftermarket EGR valves, that use washers with different sized holes to control the amount of flow, can be the cause of future problems.

I would never use one on my vehicles.

I would never install one for some one else.

I suggest returning it to the store you bought it at.

Did you get an EGR with the 1988 intake and the rest of the 1988 parts?

Keep in mind there are multiple types of EGR valves, and different flow rates.

With out having the service manual for the exact vehicle, I can’t say which vehicle has which type of EGR valve. Vehicle criteria such as, gross vehicle weight, auto / manual trans, “Tier 1” emissions / emissions system, engine size, model year and sometimes build date, all can make a difference in which type EGR system is on a vehicle.

The ECM and prom must be for the correct TYPE of EGR valve you are using.

Positive back pressure EGR valves - Should have a “P” after the last numbers on the valve. The pressure in the exhaust system effects (modulates) how much the valve opens.

Negative pressure EGR valves - Should have an “N” after the last numbers on the valve. The pressure in the exhaust system effects (modulates) how much the valve opens.

Port EGR Valves – The EGR solenoid pulses like a mixture control solenoid/fuel injector to control vacuum supply. Port valves have no “P” or “N” and it is blank after the last numbers on the valve.

The parts guy at the dealer may have no idea on what EGR valve to sell you.

no i didnt gat an egr with the intake. will the chiltons service manual have that info?

I doubt it even tells there are different types. I would not trust it anyway.

Now I know what you are talking about.

You should be able to get the correct EGR from any parts store. I bought one for my '90 Burb and my '87 R10, just recently.

i finally figured it out. i went to the dealership and had them pull the part number for an oem part. then corssed it with the napa part list for the washer. i found out that the napa guy gave me the wrong part and that is why i couldnt match oem # to washer number before. thanks to all that helped me!!!
