Blazer tank install question
I just got a Blazer tank kit from LMC Today and have a question. My truck is a LB 4x4 and the tank is metal. Why would I want to use the straps when all I need to do is line it up under the frame and drill 4 holes and bolt it in? Thanks !

Re: Blazer tank install question
I would think the straps will support the weight better.(spread the load out) 17 gals of gas at roughly 6.2lbs per gal=105.1 lbs of gas,10lbs or so for the tank & hardware.

Re: Blazer tank install question
It's going to weigh about 160 pounds when full. That weight will be multiplied whenever you hit a bump depending on how fast the truck rises. At the least you should put another thick (1/8" or larger) strap under the flange on the tank to spread that load and not have the force concentrated on the bolt heads or bolts with just washers. The straps are a REAL pain (they don't fit at all without mods) but they spread the load of the tank over a large surface area where the metal is thin.
Oh, and you have to trim the last crossbrace on a SWB. Probably on the LWB also. |
Re: Blazer tank install question
I bolted it. The tank already had a heavier piece of steel on the edges that I bolted through. I did the same thing on my last truck but it was a custom made steel tank. Took about ten minutes to install, doesn't get much easier than that!
