How many teeth? Inine 250's

Did 67~68 Inline 250's come with 168 tooth flex plate? or 153?

Re: How many teeth? Inine 250's

I had 2 with manual transmission that had 168. I never had an automatic 6. From what I've seen and been told the starter with the bolts staggered should be for a 168 tooth. If the starter bolts are parallel with the flexplate it should be 153.

My buick v6 (I know, totally different) has 153 and the bolts are inline and parallel with the flexplate. The starter on my son's truck (350) has the bolts staggered and for a 168. I think the starter nose should bolt the same way to either the I6 or v8 chevy block but I did not get an automatic installed before I trashed (piston sized hole in the side) the I6.

I think the difference is if it came with a Powerglide or a 350/400 tranny... I had to change mine because I guess the tranny that was bolted to it was a powerglide because it was too small. I had to change the starter once I did that too...
