Front brake pad slop/stick - how to fix it?
 

My left front brake pad has some slop in it apparently. It doesn't ride in tight enough tolerance to the rotor to stay in it's fixed position when the rotor hits this one spot every time around. This is most likely due to a slightly warped rotor. I say slightly because it isn't enough to feel.

My question is this...how do I keep my pad from clicking every time it hits that one spot in the rotor? It's driving me nuts!

Here's a short vid of it. Watch it a few times, and you will see the pad jump at the end. You can hear it click - but you can actually see it if you watch for it a few times.

BTW - Further proof in that vid that my truck IS a daily driver. HAH! Look at those dirty wheels! (Dirtiest they have been in at least 5 years). :D

Bend the locating tabs to clench the pad in place on the caliper?

You'll have to pull the wheel.
take a big channel lock or vice grip, and at each end of the pad there is a small tab that hooks over the caliper pointing out
grab by that and the small flat on the low edge of the pad, and squeeze the two together. do both ends ... The pad is now cinched in place on the caliper, hopefully tight enough to prevent annoying 'click!'.

Or turn up that beautiful exhaust a bit.

EDIT: I hope thats clear, I couldn't find a single picture of what I'm talking about online, but I can take one if i have to.
Oh, you might also check that rotor for a crack.....

That's sounds clear enough.
It's POURING down hear today. The most it has all year long - so I will probably just play with the truck in the garage anyhow.

try the pads frist sounds like they are loose why not while in there put some new rotors and pads in the you don't have to worry at all. but i agree with what he said there are 2 ears on top and bottom try makeing them tighter against the caliper

The service manual shows the procedure for bending those ears on pads. usually you have to get it right the first time or it's too hard to bend them again. In the past I have also used a little silicone along the edge of the backing plate to help hold them.

Well, my ears are already bent, and there isn't much more to bend on them.

It's just a new rotor or live with it. Too bad too. The rotor isn't in bad shape really.

it if off and take the to a brake shop and have them turn the rotor :edit: besure to do both rotors at the same time though

I thought about that David - but I don't know if it's really quite enough to get turned out - and I have had these turned once before. It isn't bad enough to feel while driving or stopping - just hear.

I'll just deal with it I suppose until I can get some new ones.
