Gas Sending Units??

My father in law has a 79 chevy pu. How do we test and see if the sending unit works?

take the wire off the sending unit and ground it some where to a good ground. if the wire is not broke and the fuel gauge is ok it should show full while the wire is grounded. if this works your sending unit would be bad
