C notch?

Those of you familiar with this, is there a benefit to using a section of steel pipe split legthwise to form a u-shape vs. a three sided /-\ shape? And if using the pipe, what is best? Would 4" schedule 40 work?

round is stronger, and 4 inch would work but you'll only get 2" of clearance i just notch a truck with a 6 in piece of 3/16 pipe worked great.........

Thanks for the feedback. I can see where an arch would be stronger, but I have no idea where I would locate such a large diameter pipe-especially only a foot or less in length-definitely not something that Lowe's would carry.

Steel yard. Ask them if they have any 'drop' steel in a scrap pile in the size you need. It's usually pretty cheap.

Another place I buy steel is from a local demolition company. They have a huge yard where they sell any and all scrap.
