Spray in bedliner
 

DIY, or hire it done? In my area , I have Rhino liner, or Line -X available. I have also looked at several DIY spray or roll in liners.......whats the best route? Help!!! :crazy: L

you cant get the results at home// on my 04 silverado i did linex and it has held up excellent to heavy abuse and constant florida sunlight i will use again in the future// i've seen many home jobs thin peeling and faded after a couple of years of use

You will hear debate about Line-X or Rhino all day long. they are the two big hitters. I would go with either of them.

I have a Rhino in my GMC and love it.

One thing with these, when you see the commercials where they dump a pile of bricks into the bed, you will have a dented bed, and the bedliner will tear :lol:

I got a Scorpion liner in mine... Same thing as a rhino really. On one of my fathers trucks we did a home job and the previous posts are right. It's impossible to get it as thick and even as the spray ins.

i have DIY in my 2001 silverado. JUNK!!! i saved $350 in the beginning... but now im regretting it 100%. sanding it all out is not going to be fun, but ill be damned if im going to pay $400 to have the bed prepped before i have a new one sprayed in properly.

I spray GatorHyde everyday, except Sunday. GatorHyde was voted "Best Spray-In bed liner in todays market by TRUCKS TV show. Over the years I have had every bed liner that is out there even a DIY. I would reccomend you get a HOT, HIGH PRESSURE , Hybrid PolyUreathane/PolyUrea liner installed. The cold low pressure has it's following but IMO, go HOT HIGH PRESSURE!

GatorHyde has a speacial ISO-Prime II that is applied first to an old liner and then we spray right over your old liner. Of course all loose stuff has to be removed.

GatorHyde is the same as line x hot, high pressure d use one of those two, Rhino and other cold low pressures don't hold up to the abuse, plus if you take a sample of line x and a sample of rhino and rub them together the line x will sand down the rhino, plus with the high pressure the texture is cleaner and more consistant, the heat allows the material to dry faster at line x you can usually have your truck back in a couple hours, instead of having down at rhino all day

:metal: i work at JENKINS AUTOBODY and we spray speedliner, hole lot better than rhino bed liner, where rhino dries in a few minutes, speedliner is a full chemical cure , at 72 degrees it takes 72 hours for a full cure thats why it does not fade like any of the other. We have done a bunch of them for the railroad company and consturction companies. its realy good stuff.:metal:

I got my bed liner sprayed in by professionals in town. Looks good & lasts longer than doing it yourself. Kind of a messy job to do yourself too.

A chemical stripper will soften the bedliner so removal will be easier!

Get a liner that is 100% polyurthane. Rhino is 100%. I spray ArmorThane which is also 100% poly. Tryed Scorpion a few years ago and would tear very easy. Line X has a good liner but is alot harder than the Rhino. Speedliner is like Line X, they are both hard like a plastic liner. Rhino and other poly liners are not as hard so bed may dent easier, but cargo wont slide around as bad. Most of the time with any brand of liner fading is due to improper mixing. I would never have a roll on or spray bomb type liner. They are cheap and all I have seen look like garbage. The drawback to poly is the colors. You can have colors, but poly liners wants to turn back to its orginal color which is a yellowish white. With black die fading is very very minimal due to black being dominant. I have sprayed some tans, grays, and couple of burgindys and have not had any come back with a compliant. Also how good it is sanded depends on how well is gonna stick to the truck, just like paint. So if it was mine I would get a Rhino, ArmorThane or some other 100% poly liner.

Line x is not plastic it is polyurathane also mixed with a iso.. which is a super glue mixed with the poly in the gun at over 5000 psi at a tempature of around 200 degrees.

Hard LIKE a plastic liner. I didnt state that is was plastic, because it is not. It has polyurethane mixed in but is not 100% poly.

Many thanks for all the replies! I sure dont need a DIY headache that needs to be scraped out 6 mo down the road;) I like the idea of hot /high pressure liner, it looks to be a smoother install( at home in a hotrod, as well as a lite hauler). :) :crazy: L

Gatorhyde and LNX are the same type of formula Polyureathane mixed with PolyUrea, Hot and High Pressure. However the very expensive PolyUrea is higher in concentration in our formula. Ours and LNX dries in 3-6 seconds.

This subject always brings many opinions. I know Gatorhyde is great stuff, but get what you want.

That's because the machine that delivers the material (Graco EXP-1 Reactor) is a 12,000 dollar piece of equipment, the heated (50 ft) hose and Fusion gun are another $4,000. A DIY can and roller just are not in the same ballpark. And as they always say...Ya get what ya pay for!!!

Rhino here. Its got pros and cons, but I'm sure they all do.

What's the cost? The DIY appears to be junk, but how much $$ should I plan on spending for a long bed?

I'll chime in...but as I have said before....I really don't care what brand of liner someone wants to get. I spray 20-25 trucks a month, every month. and Have never had any one say anything other than "Man that looks good". As far as RNO goes...it is a cold applied, low pressure, and does the LONG TIME dry , I think they say 4 to 6 hours. It is straight PolyUrethane...and because of that it is prone to Chalking out or fading much quicker than a Hybrid formula....Anyway hope you get what you want. I gotta get to the shop. A guy is driving into Denver from Kremmling, CO (2.5 hours away) to get his truck sprayed with GatorHyde!!! The longbed truck from Kremmling I am spraying for a $450.00 deal.

72armyswbtruck......road trip!!!! Come on down!!! You come down and I will let you spray your truck yourself at cost!!!! No kidding!


Below is an "under rail" spray. I perfer over rail, but I do what the customer wants!
