noisy lifter
 

I have a bad lifter and I was wondering if i can just change the one or do l have to change them all. Also someone told me l should change all the push rods, is that necessary?

before takin apart or changing any thing add a pint of marvelmystery oil to your crankcase

If the additive doesn't break it loose, and you're sure that the cause may be a collapsed lifter, I see no reason why you can't replace just the one. I've done that before...

On the other hand, if your engine is old and your lifters are gummed up, then I agree that you should go with the set. You'll have the intake off anyway. As far as the rods, the only time I replaced them is when one of them was bent. It's really your call...

Marvel mystery oil didn't help mine. Don't have the time or money to tear into it right now (trying to fix 6 other things right now). I am just going to adjust it like a solid and quiet it down a bit. A good mechanic I use recomended this to hold me over.

I had this problem. Replaced all the lifters and it still made noise. Turned out to be a scored lifter bore :eek: The fix was to build a 476 for it ;)

l replaced the cam and lifters 4 years ago with a RV cam from edelbrock.

I also had a collasped lifter. Replaced the one lifter and everything was fine. Don't run it too long collasped.

New lifter on a used cam can be a bad combo - the more agressive finish on the new cam can flatten a cam lobe. Not an absolute no - but it's a risk.

Be SURE it's a bad lifter and not a flat lobe or bent pushrod.

I'm not RECOMMENDING this, but the times I have had to replace a lifter, I've chucked it up in a lathe and taken a little emery cloth soaked in solvent to the foot LIGHTLY just to take it down a notch.
