front axle
5 Attachment(s)
I'm finally changing out the old closed knuckle d 44 for a corp 10 with disc brakes. Here are a few pics. Look at the pic with the pin & bushing, can't believe I was driving it like that!! Scary:crazy: . Waiting for the new parts to come in so I can get it back together. I think I will go ahead and put power steering now while I have it torn apart. Should drive like a million bucks when done. If anyone has done this before and wants to share any info I would appreciate it. Jeremy.

Re: front axle
I did this same swap on my 68 K-10. You will need 3" wide U-bolts since the old Dana 44's were 2.75". I did use my top plates but it was a PITA since I basically had to squeeze the U-bolts together to slide them on and then add the nuts. The Banjo bolts (Calipers) and brake hoses are metric on them. That's as far as I have gotten. Check out my build thread for pics.... Good luck. I also went ahead and added urethane bushings and ORD shackles while it was apart...

Re: front axle
Did you get the bushings for your stock leaf springs? Are they just a standard size?
|
Re: front axle
mine where.... I had some issues since I had HD springs. I would measure you eyelets (width and length) and bolt width and call them. Them can tell you what there package has in it. Pretty easy installing but a pain to take the old one's out... I used Energy Suspension out of California.

Thanks for the info!

Re: front axle
Well I got my other axle under the truck. What length brake hoses will I need? The guy I got the axle from left the stock ones on it, they will bolt up but there is no room for turning the steering from lock to lock. The axle came from a 87 k-5 blazer, I guess get some longer ones from a lift kit supplier?

Re: front axle
NAPA has pre-flared lines too... You just need to know how long you need. They also make them in Poly-Armor (spelling) which is coated to prevent rust.... I bought two 3/8" lines for a fuel line from them...
Never flared & bent lines myself, with an empty frame or a lift I might try it but on a built truck it would be a pain. Inline sells SS kits for less then $200, seems worth it to me to buy that... |
Re: front axle
What size are the stock brake lines? 1/4 or 3/16?
|
Re: front axle
they were mixed sizes on my 68. can't remember the difference but it was like 3/16 up front, 1/4 going to the back and 3/16 on the back axle.... don't take my word though, I trashed them a few months ago....

Re: front axle
No problem, I'll just take some with me when I go to Napa. How is your truck coming along?
|
Re: front axle
mine's sitting in the garage waiting for more funds to develop! I am going to get the inline SS setup since I have heard that they have quality pieces...

Re: front axle
I know what you mean about the funds, thats why I'm finally putting this axle in, had to save a few bucks!!
