Anyone have a "junkyard" toolbox?
 

This is probably something that most guys have, but I'm gonna put together a toolbox for my truck that I can use to get parts off parts trucks I see (with permission!) or for journeys to the junkyard. I have a few basics in my truck already but not nearly enough. Any suggestions on what's a good, small toolbox that's complete enough and still small emough to put under the seat in my extended cab?

soft sided tool bag, I'll never have a hard box that I'll carry around again. the bag is only as big as what you have in it. and you can get them in many sizes

I have an old plastic tool box and a set of hand trucks. Don't know which is more helpful.

i have the basics in my truck at all times but when i go shopping i throw my top box in to be sure

I have an old piece of one foot pipe to give wrenches levrige with rusty bolts in my junkyard tool box. My junkyard tool box is a 5 gallon bucket with a tool cloth insert from Home Depo that converts the bucket to a tool box. Use Craftman tools so when you brake them they can be replaced for free. A ten pound hammer works well too. Tool bags are great for what your looking for. The Army surplus store has some nice ones for cheap. Hope this helps.

I use a large tool bag from slowes and a crapsman 155 piece tool set. For add ons I take:
sockets that the kit doesn't contain up to 1 1/8"
wrenches 1/4-1 1/4 metric to 7-22
small sledge
pickle fork wrench
pitman arm puller
2 large and small adj wrenches
2 14" pipe wrenches
a few large sockets 1 1/4+
set of chisels and punches
large/normal channel locks
3 different pry bars
3/4 breaker
small floor jack
wire cutters big and small
a good knife
several screwdrivers
torx set
allen set up to 1/2"
4wd hub nut wrench
14bff hub nut wrench

I use a landscaping wagon to carry my stuff, I can tote the bag minus the jack but it's heavy as two mofo's. I also use this setup for my offroad bag. offroading.

I didn't see the "convenience tools" listed.

PB blaster or some other penetrant.
Wasp killer.
Insect repellent.

And how about something to spread on the ground for when you need to crawl into the poison ivy to get that rare tow hook?:)

A big tarp to lay on, a knife to cut wire and hoses, band-aids, an extra set of coveralls, latex gloves (real nasty fluids and poison ivy), waterless hand cleaner and rags so you don't get crap on the steering wheel, and a few cold ones in the cooler to celebrate finding your new treasure.

My #1 most important junkyardin' tool .... cordless sawzall. (Any part comes off eventually.)

In addition to the cordless sawzall, I've got a cordless impact. 18v DeWalt. Spins bolts off WAY faster than by hand.

Think of 100 bees with blowtorches for stingers!
