GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Ok fellow Truckers....as you know I have a 70cst that I am planning on the transformation this fall or next summer at the latest. My other Truck is a 99 Taco TRD with 55,000 in excellent condition. I need a bigger truck to do the chores arond the homestead. This means selling the Taco and purchasing a larger truck. This is where you all come in...I found a 72 GMC K10 from CA. with auto., PS.,350V8, and that's about it but it is 99% rust free and never been cut. The bed is flat with zero rust. Price...I think I can get it for $5000. Is this a descent deal? I can put aftermarket ac in it. I don't need a fully optioned truck as I have my 70cst. Would you say Deal or no Dewa;. I am in no rush but I am looking for a 67-72 Chevy/GMC 4x4 w/auto.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Rust free? Sounds like it could be a good deal, possibly a bargain. Hard to say without pics. If it's a swb it could be a steal.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

It's a LWB with very few options but it is rust free and straight. As mentioned I could always add AC and tilt. I will use this as a work truck and my 70cst would be my fun truck. A SWB would be neat but from a work truck perpective...not as practicle. I could get a newer truck but then again why get a newer truck when these trucks are still available?

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

for a running 4wd that is "rust free" I would say $5K is a good deal. be nice to see pics though. How many chores do you need to do? If you are looking at heavy hauling then a K-20 might be better...

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Nothing heavy...stuff like feed grain, furniture etc. My 99 Taco is very nice but it's not a true 1/2 ton truck and I am limited to what I can haul. It will be used but not abused. :hmm:

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

looks like a nice truck, floor and under cab are rust free too? I'd buy it for $5K if it's steet worthy. With that steel floor you should have any issues with towing. Let me know if you pass, i'm looking for a good driving truck too...

I don't like the rims but that's an easy fix, nice find...

There's a couple ppl who have come and gone on here that have dealt with that vendor. They say he is a stand up guy and they were all pleased with the product and service he gave.
That being said, you and I both know that a rust bucket K/10 ... or even C/10 would cost close to that hare. I say go for it personally.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Thanks Longhorn Man...
My thinking is...buy the GMC and then next summer sell the 99 Taco and use that money to start fixing up my 70cst. The Taco is a nice city truck but it's not a true 1/2 ton truck. There has been various times when I wished I had a larger truck. I need to keep the Taco till I get my wife an AWD vehicle which we will get next spring. If you are familiar with the Zanesville area...lots of hills and they do get slick in the winter time.

I have another question for the all knowing Truck experts of the Truck Heavens...:metal:
As mentioned...this truck does not have factory ac...I know that I can install Vintage Air or Old Air...but do trucks w/o factory ac have air vents that are used? I can't remember what non ac trucks look like.
Thanks in advanced.:o

Non AC trucks don't have vents, you have to cut them out.

Non AC trucks only have defrost and floor vents....

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Yep... I've been out there. It can get pretty nasty. I assume you live out of town on a few acers or something yes? Otherwise i can't see the 'NEED' for the AWD.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

We live in a new development outside Zanesville that has the steepest paved road in the township. Thus last winter not only did my wife come sliding back down the road into the ditch...the tow truck that was sent to get her also slid into the ditch, and after that the township truck slid about 20' behind the wifes car. :haha: In about 60 minutes we had three vehicles in the ditch. Thats why the Sable goes and an AWD will be purchased. She has been driving the Taco in bad weather. Once I purchase her another car the Taco goes. :metal:

makes sence to me. not very often you get ppl in this part of the country that actually NEED it.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Looks like a very nice truck to me. Trucks that rust free are few and far between as you know. I'll defer to other people on the value.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

Well I was going to meet with Scott next week to possibly purchase this truck and somone beat me to it. :whine: With two jobs it isn't always easy to break free but Scott and I have been in dialog about this truck. But I always believe if it was meant to be it wiil be. :D I wanted an air cab and this didn't have one so I was dragging my feet a little. Don't know who bought it but I hope this truck goes to a good home.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

i bought a truck from him about 8years ago was very satisfied with what i got until the tree fell on it during the hurricane but by that time i had put more than 140thousand miles on it i just wish he still carried more 2wd trucks but hes sort of specializing in 4wd now

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

1970 Chevy 3/4 ton 2wd, Rustfree from CA, Original Hugger orange paint, Top line CST trim, 350, AT, A/C, Tach, toolbox, etc.
$3950.00

Scott has the above truck for sale which is a good price. I already have a
2wd so I am looking for a 4x4. I waited to long to pull the trigger on this GMC but that is ok as I wanted an air cab. I hope to meet with him next week. I am in no rush so maybe I will wait untill Scott finds a truck like I am looking for. Scott seems to be a straight shooter.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

i saw that truck listed missing original bigblock missing most of ac system and mounts and being a 3/4ton really not the type of project i'm lookin for// thats the first 2wd hes had in a long time he used to have alot more on a steady basis

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

cdowns...
I missed that part on that truck. I guess one needs to be observant when looking at these trucks. My wife is more in favor of me fixing up my 70cst 2wd and forget the 4x4. Since this truck has a locking posi I can go where I want to go. I look at all those nice 4x4's and if I had trucks that nice I don't think I would want to actually take it off road. They do look nice but then again so do the 2wd trucks. The 2wd trucks will handle and drive better than the 4x4's. As they say...sometimes the best deal is the deal you didn't make.

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

If you want a work truck, $5K would go a long way with a 73 to 87. I wouldn't buy a 67-72 4x4 and beat on it. I'd rather have a later model truck with stronger axles, etc.

There's a nice looking '69 K20 long bed for sale here on CL for $4k/offer.

I pm'd you back.

I agree with not using the 67-72 as a daily work truck :dum:...I would not be using it as a beater. Just for odds and ends. :gi:

Re: GMC 4x4 Deal or No Deal?

That 4x looks like a fun truck to have around --- but aside from the longer bed -(that may be a biggie though) -- a 1/2 ton doesn't have a whole lot more utility value than that TRD -- those trucks were made for abuse too

As far as the true locking hubs go - when was the last time the "taco" ever slipped out? I know it is comparing apples to oranges, but heck, i would just buy that clean 4x for myself and give the Toyo to wifey if she likes it and it is as clean and lo-mileage as you say.

Being men, we have very little mental faculties to stop us from aquiring and building new toys -- so as the Nike slogan said - Just Do It
