Just a quick note. I have noticed that there has been alot of postings concerning 700R4 conversions. Well, I just finished putting one in my '67 Camaro with a 427 and I can tell you that it kicks a**. I can't wait to get one in my 4x4 (including a 427)!

Hope you tossed some $$ into it, otherwise, you'll be spending $$ to fix it later.
Also, tip...have a pro set the TV cable with pressure guages and all. The TV cable controlls shifting rpm, shifting firmness, and fluid pump out put. If not adjusted right, your tranny WILL self destruct.

They assure me that this will live behind my Big Block. I did set it up with a pressure guage. Even though guys claim that they do it I do not see how you can do it properly without a pressure guage.

breeh, Impressive. You did your home work.
What did that tranny set you back? Did it come with a verter? What stall you using,a nd did you maintain the lock-up mode, or bypassed it?

longhornmail, the tranny alone was $1300.00. I bought a stall converter that was rated for 1800 to 2200 on a small block so, of course, it is higher on my big block. The guy that built the converter for me was very knowledgable and has been doing converters for about 30 years. He feels that people are using too big of stalls based on info they are getting from the big companies. All that I know is that it is hooking up sweet. I am using the Performer RPM cam which has quite a bit of duration so I just had to trust this guy's recommendation. I used the TV made EZ also from Bowtie Overdrives and it was very painless setting this thing up on my Holley.

Oh yeah, I kept the lock-up mode...

Yah, I heard all the warnings about 700R4 problems, and I put on in the Studebaker. I had my tranny guy build it and install it because of all the fears. I've put between 1500 and 2000 miles on it and I LOVE IT!

IM not saying that everyone is wrong but I put a 700R4 behind my 402 and have had not one problem in 8000 miles and 8 months. It was a take-out from a 87 2 wheel drive S/10 Blazer whitch had a 4.3 in it. The only thing I had the trans shop do before I put it in was to reseal it for me. I adjusted the TV cable just like the Chilton Manual says and it workes fine. I have towed several trailers several 100 miles with no problem. And I just towed a car from FL to WI and was very pleased wit it.The only thing I would recomend is the bigest cooler you could find because heat is a trans #1 problem.

You made my day! I've been wanting to put a 700R4 in my 1 Ton Longhorn and I'll be towing with it, too. Now I just need to find one.

Now that i found my engine mounts are in the wrong place, I too am on the lookout for a 700. The overdrive and a low first gear kicka$$.
