Has any1 installed the euro style headlights and hd wiring from lmc?

I am wanting 2 put euro headlights in my truck. Is the lmc lights just a plug and play operation witht the new bulbs? How much more light is produced with these lights and the hd wiring harness with relays? any pictures of before and after would be appreciated

Re: Has any1 installed the euro style headlights and hd wiring from lmc?

I did the switch, don't have any before and after pics.
They're suppose to be plug & play wiring but mine wasn't. Their connector was wired incorrectly, had the hi and low beam wires switched. I swapped them and everything is now ok.
I haven't yet had them out on the road yet... but they are quite a bit brighter on the garage wall.
On a scale of 1 to 10 rating for over all ease of install I would rate it a 8. That's because I'm not an electrical guy... but with a schematic from a service manual and trial and error I was able to have it fixed fairly quickly.
Overall I would say a good experience.:)

God Bless, Terry

If you are good at these things, here is a link to make the harness yourself.
Plus, some additional information on the subject.

Can the bulbs in the lmc light be changed like the neweer cars by just a screw in bulb or is it still a sealed beam light?

Re: Has any1 installed the euro style headlights and hd wiring from lmc?

They have a replacable H4 bulb just like most newer style cars.

I have them on my truck but they use a 9006 & 9007 lamp not H4 and the HD wiring isn't required most American made vehicles have a heavy enough gauge wire to handle the extra load but they come with a crossover pigtail to connect the stock harness to the new style lamp.

They are very bright:metal:

Good article, but for some reason I can't help but think that it would almost be more expensive to go this route than it would to just buy the kit from LMC. I see he made the article before LMC sold the kit, but I don't think it would be worth your time or money to do it.

I have the bright lights like thoise in the picture on my 83 El Camino, they use the same style lights. Got them from Autozone, dont need to get them from LMC and pay too much. E bay has a billion version for the trucks to. The wiring is screwed up to, have to change the connector wires around but they work good.

almost everything I see on ebay has those stupid "city lights" which are just blue 194 bulbs. The LMC versions seem not to have that thing and look a lot more tasteful. How about your autozone lights? Do they have that blue bulb?

Got 'em form LMC and im very pleased with the fit and the quality of the light housings they have a cast aluminum reflector and clear real glass lense.

I don't remember what i paid for them and i dont know how good the ones are from Autozone but what ever i paid it was worth it cuz there a quality piece of equipment.

The Autozone lights dont have the city lights but they have leds around the edges so it glows a light blue when the parking lights or lights are on, its not very bright like the ricer neons though. They also can be left unhooked up to not use them, or they sold a set that didnt have the surrounding lights. The lens is glass and the backs metal. I used the brightest bulbs I could find, very bright and not blinding with the proper angles in the glass. I think I spent between 50 and 60 bucks.

I wrote the majority of the article up on the 73-87 site. If you know what you are doing with electrical stuff, it was cheaper in the long run to do it myself. Two rolls of wire, two relays, two inline fuse holders, weather proof crimp on connectors, some solder and shrink wrap and your done. I had less than $20 in supplies, a lot I already had in the garage. Once I figured it all out it didn't take very long at all to make up the power circuits for the relays and crimp on the connectors to the existing wires where I cut them for the control inputs to the relays.

It just really depends on your skill level with electrical or the amount of time you have to spend on this mod. I'm pretty good with it and at the time, no other kit was available. If electrical is not your bag, get the LMC kit. It's still fairly cheap, but you do have to deal with instructions in Chinese/Japanese. Plus as I've commented about the LMC kit a hundred times (it seems like) the kit does not have ANY fuse protection on it. This means the power wires that are rated for 30amp load have zero protection against a short to ground. If either circuit gets grounded before the load, instead of popping a fuse, the wire will burn up like a toaster element, which could lead to your entire truck burning to the ground while you watch it.

Nobody's chimed in recently that have bought the LMC kit to say if they started putting fuses on the power circuits. I'd be interested to see if they corrected this oversight or not. Heck the instructions might have some warning about it, but my ability to read chinese is pretty poor.

Bottom line, if you get the LMC kit you still should be doing some minor stuff to install the fuses.

Hey guys thanks for the info, I will be ordering the lmc kit this week and WILL be putting fuse links inline if it dosent have any. I am going to upgrade the alternator this week also the one on the truck has seen better days, the regulator is sticking in it.

Was it mine?

This is my thread on these products with lots of pics and diagrams:

I still can't get the high beam lights to come on but after reading these:

Someone needs to please elaborate on exactly what was done here with changing wires around so I can try that with mine. Thanks.

Re: Has any1 installed the euro style headlights and hd wiring from lmc?

Hi Dave,

First thing I would like to say is that this worked on "my" wiring harness it may not work on yours.

I started off by making sure the ground was good and I had the correct wire(s) for it. In tracing this, I discovered the LMC harness ground wire was blue with a white stripe. I then traced that back to their supplied connector the one that plugs into the old factory connector and I noticed it the LMC harness connector did not match up (pin position) with the factory connector. I did this be checking the schematic in my factory service manual. Once I matched up the ground circuit wires (pin) position correctly. It was a fifty fifty chance that the position of the two power wires would work.
My first test try was the same. High beams on when indicated switch to lows nothing. I swapped around the two power wires in the connector (pin positions) & voila worked the second time perfectly.

Basically they had it wired backwards.

Hope this helps. God Bless, Terry
