Rear Suspension
 

Hello everyone, I just registered for this forum because I bought 2 1972 trucks yesterday(first time truck owner). One is a Chev Cheyenne 10 and the other is a GMC 1500 super custom. I bought them to make one good truck but cannot decide which one to fix up and which one to be the parts truck. The GMC has coil springs and the Chev has leaf springs. I will be using the truck as a daily driver and occasionally to haul one or two moto-x bikes total weight 500lbs so I think the coil spring truck will be better. What do you guys think? Welcome from So. Cali, good to have ya man. I'd say go with the coil setup personally, i like the way my coil truck rides better than a leaf truck. Give us some pics and we'll be better able to tell you which one is better for fixin up.

I'd go with coils if its seeing only light duty. Interesting the Chevy has leafs and the GMC coils as coils were chevy's standard equipment and leafs were GMC's. Both your trucks have "optional equipment" rear suspensions.

i can attest that more weight can be placed in the 1/2 ton coils truck than the 1/2 ton leaf truck, the leaf trucks squat and squat all the way til truck is on the ground, the ociuls squat until coils are compressed and eventually stop compressing and you can load waaaaayyyyyy more wieght on it,i wanna see 4,440lbs be placed in the back of a stock 1/2 ton leaf truck and have it still be driveable, i did it in a coils rear 1/2 ton(68) with the factory 500lb each(two of them) aux springs.

congrats on trucks score, and welcome to forum, why not just have two uncommon trucks?

I cannot afford both trucks. The Chev has power steering and power brakes with a head liner and cargo light but is two tone green with tan interior. The GMC is red and white with a white interior with less rust but has been hit on the drivers door with some bad body work. I it driving me nuts trying to figure out which one to restore. The green Chev had been driven almost every week so it is less deteriorated, the red GMC had been parked in a barn for 5 years and is smelly with mice **** and needs lots of work done to the mechanicals, but the color of the GMC and the coils are swaying me. I need help! ROB

As far as head liners and cargo lights...they do just bolt on.

Longhorn you are so right, the Chev is a better truck to start with but I look at that damn GMC and I think I am in love. The only problem with that is we usually get our hearts broken when we fall in love. ROB
