Re: how to replace rear sliding glass window
well when i popped out the back glass on my truck i used the same gasket on my slider that i had the solid one in with. i set the slider in the gasket and I proceeded to stuff the left side corner in ( just cause thats where i decided to start) and i had my son with me so i made him hold the glass and gasket while i used a large flathead screwdriver that i used to pick up the edge of the gasket and lift it over the lip int he window part of the cab.it gets tougher as you go along I went most of the way across the bottom then went to the top. i picked up the right side of the gasket and pushed the glass into place . it was a bit tight . Some guys make a lasso out of a cord and use that to wiggle the gasket into place but my way works for me.
someone else once said you can lube up the gasket some too with like a lite oil or something but i was told by someone else that that can ruin the rubber so i did it dry and it worked hope this helps |
Re: how to replace rear sliding glass window
Theis is most definetly a 2 man operation so get a buddy to help you out.
Items you'll need are; 1. WINDOW (DUHH) 2. GASKET New preferred but not needed if old one is in good shape. 3. SILICONE SPRAY 4. NYLON ROPE 5. ONE EXTRA SET OF HANDS 1. Put your gasket on the new window. 2.Then, using nylon rope small enough to fit in the outside channel of the gasket, insert it into the channel starting at the bottom just off center and go all the way around the window and over lap the rope at the bottom and then spray the entire channel down with a silicone spray to make pulling the rope out of the gasket later easier. 3. Making sure that the nylon rope ends are inside the cab, have your friend stand in the bed of your truck while your inside the cab and have them set the bottom of the glass into the opening of the rear window opening on the cab. 4. While they hold the window in place, take one end of the rope and slowly pull down and way from the center of the glass, working your way towards the bottom corner and around. Make sure the lip of the gasket rolls inside the cab as you go. 5.Continue to go all the way around the window pulling the rope through as you go. 6. Once you've gone all around the window and have pulled the rope completely clear of the gasket, you still need to "seat" the gasket into place. To do this you slap the glass. The proper way to do this is with the plat of your hand firmly BUT CAREFULLY slap the outside of the window all around the outer perimeter near the gasket. If you follow theae directions you should have no problems installing your new back glass wether it's a solid one piece unit or a framed slider unit. Hope this helps you out!!!! |
Re: how to replace rear sliding glass window
If you don't have silicon spray, a third person with a spray bottle of Windex constantly spraying the area you're actually working on also works wonders.

Re: how to replace rear sliding glass window
a solid back glass will fit as well, and be a little more theft proof. Also, soapy water works as well as windex or silicone spray. Windex or soap/water will clean up a lot easier.

So you pull -outside to in- right? And the rope size .. 7/16 rope?
