Need a measurement...
Can someone measure the distance from the firewall to the radiator support on either side of your Blazer's engine compartment? I'm still trying to get my body lines and windshield frame lined up. I've shimmed the body mounts as well as I can and am at 37 1/4 inches on one side and 37 1/8 on the other. I think thats pretty close, but am not sure if I'm in the ball park yet. My doors will have to be realigned again and I'm pulling the fenders tonight. Let me know if you guys have about the same thing. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Need a measurement...
I'd help you out but my fenders and rad. support are still off. I really wish I could give you that measurement, rite now my windshield is off 3/4" side to side. I have to pull the pass. side down at the 'A' post:whine: J.
One of these days I'll learn to listen to conventional wisdom..... |
Re: Need a measurement...
It's dark and raining but as close as I could tell. 37.5 inches on both sides.

Re: Need a measurement...
Mine is 37.5 on both sides.

Re: Need a measurement...
Thanks guys. I pulled my body shims back out and have almost an inch difference between the two sides now. It wasn't getting any closer shimming it. I think I'm going to make some braces like Rokcrln uses to brace inside his projects and run them from the frame to the firewall, then use those to pull the windshield frame into line where I need it. Re: Need a measurement...
Might want to try PM'n him, he was going to make / sell a kit for those
braces for the dorrs and tailgate. I know cause I asked him about one. |
Re: Need a measurement...
Ya, I sent him a couple of PM's to see if he thought those would work, but haven't heard back from him yet. I haven't been able to do anything with it anyway. The "honey do" list has had me hopping since I got home. Hopefully next week I can get something made up and installed. I'd love to be able to drive it at least once before I leave the country again! Later, Jeff.

Have you done this yet? It sounds like a good idea, I ask becuase I want to know what happens once you get your measurement and pull the braces? Does it try to pull back out of measurement? Or pull something else out of place? Maybe im putting to much thought into it. By forcing into place and then bolting it down there is allot of pressure somewhere, so why not shim the hell out of it somewhere or bend something to take that pressure off too? I am running into the same type of issues and it has to get cheated like that at least somewhere. Good luck |
Re: Need a measurement...
No, haven't gotten them made yet, still trying to get the roll bar installed and see if I can pull it with that. I'm wondering the same thing though, where will it go after they are loosened. I'm hoping it will stay, but am not holding my breath. I'll let you know what happens though. As for measurements, I'm at 37 on either side right now though. I tried shimming it every way I could, but still couldn't get the lines to straighten out. We'll see how the roll bar does. I should have it done tomorrow and be able to start pulling on way or the other. I'll keep you updated. Thanks, Jeff.

Re: Need a measurement...
Ok, got the roll bar installed. I'm using the redneck method to pull my windshield into line, rope on one side and a 2X6 on the other! Works though. It still looks to me like the nose is higher than it should be though. I'm wondering if the radiator support is sitting higher than it should. It has new body mounts on it, but I'm thinking about taking the ones under the radiator out to see if that'll line up the fenders. They are still a little high in the front and thats throwing my door alignment off. I'll keep you posted as to what I find out. Later, Jeff.

Re: Need a measurement...
What ever will make it work is the right way most the time. Do you have a picture of the roll bar set up?

Here's some pics of it in...

Re: Need a measurement...
nice that looks allot easier than constantly messing with shims and all that.

Re: Need a measurement...
Necessity is the mother of invention... very clever, is it working??? Cause I have to pull my windshield frame down 3/4"
|
Re: Need a measurement...
It is! I went ahead and took the mounts out from under the radiator support and made my own that are only about a 1/4 inch thick. This got my fenders in line and when I released my rope and pulled the 2X6, the windshield only moved marginally. Seems to be good now! Woo hoo!

Re: Need a measurement...
Glad to see it is working! So did I ever get back to your PMs? I think I did but with working out of town right now it is hard for me to remember. My father in law just got Internet yesterday:rolleyes: I remember the question but can not remember my answer:confused:
As far as I remember I am not planning on selling kits for the braces show in another post if anyone was wondering. They are to easy to make and I could not justify the time spent for the price I would have to ask for them. Kevin LFD Inc. |
Re: Need a measurement...
No worries Kevin, as you can see, I didn't even go with the braces. Just the roll bar got it all in line. Now if I can just get the rest of it finished! I think it was Luv that was looking to buy some of your braces. Later, Jeff.
