Questions about finishing my fender
 

I've got the fender down to bare metal and was wondering what I should do now. Here r my 3 questions

1. You can see in the pics there is some surface rust in some spots that i sanded down and it left some pitting but nothing that went through. Should I paint those areas with por-15 then primer over everything?
2. What whould you guys use to fill up the 3 trim holes along the front face of the fender. Could you use something like jb weld for that?
3. What do you use to smooth out the fender in spots where there are some little dings or minor indents, the real small stuff. Do you load it up with primer then sand it? bondo it or will bondo peel off? or what do you guys use that works best to fill in the small imperfections

I would treat the fender with a rust killing product like "Rustmort", then etch prime, seal, prime and paint. WES

I've never used jb weld before and dont really know what it is, i was just throwing that out there.

I have very little welding experience, but am learning now. How would you guys weld up those holes? Find something small enough to fit in the hole then weld it in place then grind it and sand it smooth?

Does rustmorte do anything different than por-15?

You can weld the holes using a backer.Usually they are copper bars that somewhat fit the shape of the back side of the area.Since copper is self insulating the weld wont stick to it.Just fill the hole with weld.If you're learning you need to practice filling holes.Don't get the metal too hot or it will warp.

Yeah a farmer down the road to me gave me a 67 c-30 that was sitting in the field, Ive taken a whole bunch of stuff from it that was still good but i figured I'd practice welding on some of the junk metal on the truck.

If you need any 67 c-30 parts let me know. Emblems, original glove box door, owners manual w/ protecto plate, turn key assembly, windshield wiper motor and so on, just a bunch of small stuff from it.
I'm still deciding what im gonna do with the 292 straight 6 and 4 speed tranny thats in it. Under the dirt and grime theres still the original orange paint on the engine, its pretty cool.

I would weld the holes shut.
Treat the pitted areas with an etch. DuPont calls their product Kwik Prep or something like that. I have a bottle of PPGs etch in the shed. I forget their name for it.
Then epoxy primer.
Then bondo.
Then more epoxy. Block smooth.
Color.

use a stop rust agent on any spots you have rust...weld the holes up thats the the only way to do it right...next any dings or pits fill with bondo,sand it smooth ..start with 80 grit paper and work your way down to 120........next prime and block then you prime and block again...useing 320 paper..then seal and paint..hope this helps good luck......
