Is an OEM Gas tank for $100 a good buy?

Once my truck goes into the shop this fall/winter for the resto...would it be worth while for me to replace my stock 37 yr old gas tank for a new one? ($100) Or is it better to keep the one I now have? :jdp:
Which way would be a :gi: Thanks in avance.

Is the current one clean (inside)? That would be the deciding factor.

I paid $100 for a clean original tank late on a Sunday night from a friend. (I had to use my truck to get to work on Monday morning.) The gas cap wouldn't stay on my original tank. I thought it was a great deal.

The seller is the body shop that will be doing my resto this winter. He has done rods and restos for many of years. Its my understanding that he has had cars that he restored sold at Barrett Jackson. He will hold the gas tank until we take a good look at the one thats in my truck. He is also the one who has the "mint" LWB bed that I will be using for my truck. My bed sides are good but the floor bed is a waste.

You make a good point Longhorn Man The way Kurt described the tank I assumed it was OEM. Maybe I am mistaken. I will double check. Kurt said this was a mint gas tank with the original GM lettering/info still on the tank. I realize there is a difference between OEM and used so I will check it out in a couple weeks. Sooooooooo if its a mint and not OEM gas tank it still sounds like it is a good deal? I will need to check out the inside of my tank to see what the condition is? :hmm: Also I will check out this tank.

Just my .02 cents but if you are changing the bed, now would be a good time to think about moving the inside the cab tank to an under the bed style. I did that on my '71 4x4 and am very satisfied with the results. Lots of folks here have done that with several differant ways to do so, just something to consider. If keeping the inside tank is the way you decide I would look at an original tank as the new replacement tanks I have seen look and feel pretty thin as in : "cheesy" :)

I am sticking with the used original OEM. I have been collecting them, at between $10-$30 a piece, so I have several I can choose from as I need them. Most came out of running trucks, so I think they are pretty clean.
