My New 07 Duramax Needs A Crank

Yup Nice hey. I bought a Classic 07 GMC Crew/Duramax 4x4. ever since new it has a small oil leak from the front balancer area. After 5 times( 2 seals a balancer) at one dealership I had enough and took it to another. They found that the crank is leaking out the balancer bolt threads of all things(10,000)Km. So now the engine has to come out and a new crank is to be installed. Not Happy

Re: My New 07 Duramax Needs A Crank

When my '89 was still within warranty the original 305 developed a worsening cracked engine block in the lifter valley. It had always run hot since it was new, and that was just a symptom of the worsening condition. So....I dealt with the dealer and they...of course...tried to do the cheapest way out possible. They replaced the short block and replaced the heads, etc. from the gummed up original engine. Lot of problems after that....

Long story short; I replaced the 305 with a 350 myself. That was 14 years and 150K miles ago.

I would not accept anything less than a factory engine. I would not trust dealer grease monkeys on that job. Period.

I agree with MR RICH, I would contact as high up in the Chevrolet Motor Division as I could till they agree to give you a new motor. Keep going up the ladder till you are satisfied. It was not right from the start. A rebuilt is not new! Good luck.

I would call the main GM number not the stealer when my 03 d-max had problems it was a lemon within 600 miles it was towed to the shp 5 times for every thing from enjectors to the computer going out in it. I called them and filled the lemon law paper work through fla and got a hole new truck. it took a few mounth but it was worth it in the end. if you dont have a lemon law they should at least replace the hole engine.

:agree: Contact GM, as it might be a lemon.

well got the truck back ...TODAY

I must say they did a nice job, New Crank, bearings and all the gaskets and seals, 3 weeks + a day. Total bill about $9000. My cost $14 and change for a oil filter.

Time will tell:confused:
