removing windshield glass?
 

What do I have to do? I Took out the rear window without damaging the rubber using 5 or 6 small screwdrivers and 2 people. Is taking out the windshield similar, or should I just cut the rubber to take out the glass? How hard is it to put back in?

I would just cut the rubber,& replace it .....much easier.......69

Rather replace the rubber than replace the windshield.

its funny this comes up today, this is the day i had my "windshield experience. i finally got arounfd to replacing the one that got broke when the hood flew up with one that i had taken out of a parts truck. for starters, a new gasket costs 50 bucks, a new windshiel, 115! so theres one tip, but if you do decide to take it out the with the gasket in one piece use lots of glass cleaner and release agent, also, dont use screw drivers, it will crack in a heart beat, id buy one of the fiber glass spatula type things they have that they use to do it, cause it will break before the glass will, also one thing to think about is that you can use old glass with new molding, but you cant use old glass with old molding or new glass for that matter, the molding gets hard and its not pliable and wont flew to let the glass in like it should, any way, i just learned all this crap today, (after they crakced my windshield, and explained why it crakced) so good luck!

With about 20 years in the glass business, I can tell you it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to remove the windshield unbroken from a 67-72 Chevy/GMC without cutting the rubber, because of the design of the curve at the top corners. The other glass (like your back window)is tempered glass, and is much stronger than float glass. The windshield is laminated safety glass- it's just two pieces of float glass with a layer of plastic sandwiched in between, and it will break much, much more easily.

I would never even try to use a 30 year old seal for the windshield. I've seen it done, but I don't advise it.

wow, wish you would have been there to tell the guys at the glass shop, all i can tell you is that now i have a glass winshield that is "less cracked"then my old one. oh well, they didnt charge me anything, adn they filled in my rsted drip rails and the rust holes in my roof qwith polyurethane...
