New wood bed kits

Hey Guys,
I'm going to put a new wood bed in my 63 step side. Any recommendations?
Thanks, Tim

If you order Red Oak for some reason, do not leave it out in the elements and seal it really good on all edges and ends. It really is not a good wood for outdoors. White oak would be better.. No white oak kits that I have even seen though. I do my own bed wood so chioce are unlimited..

If I ever get to the point of installing bed wood, I'm gonna try Trex composite decking. I saw a nice 50 that had it and it looked great. No sanding, no staining, no clearing, and no getting bent over by the catalog guys.

I found the be kit I want now I need the right paint. I don't want a pretty stain as I'm gonna be using the truck as a truck. I like the original look. Can someone tell what the right stuff to use is?
Thanks, Tim

Re: New wood bed kits

I learned from a wood expert last weekend that my bed is made of pine. I also noticed that it was painted black on the bottom (probably the top too). I will probably get a pine kit and paint it with clear instead of black. I want to use mine as a work truck too, but clear will look better than black.

I believe they came with yellow pine wood from factory.

I bought yellow pine for mine. I'm thinking now a clear finish might be okay. It should be here today. I may get it done this weekend, but I promised a buddy I'd help cut some wood Sunday. That may cut into my truck time. I'll post some pics when I get it done. Thanks for the help, Tim
