Forced Induction
Any of you guys have pics and or have personally gone forced induction on our style trucks? Would love to hear and or see some setups and pics.

Re: Forced Induction
My dream plans would be a centrifugal supercharger, mainly because of the sleeper factor......no big cowls or holes in the hood. :metal:

Re: Forced Induction
Not much 'sleeper' about hearing supercharger pullies and belts whirring when sitting at a stoplight. ;)
You can just tell people that your alternator is going bad... :metal: I'm a forced-induction addict, and think it'd be super cool on a classic truck. But, turbos are my thing. Currently pushing 21psi through a Mitsubishi TD04h-19T on my Volvo, 2.4L I-5. |

Re: Forced Induction
actually I have a buddy down in Georgia that will put together a TT setup for my truck...hes turbo charges his hotrods all the time and makes super clean kits. Im just debating if I want to go that route and or check out a Weiand kit. That pic of the Centrifugal kit is awesome what company is it?

Re: Forced Induction
Turbo is the way to go.My DD is a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon 4 cylinder that has a td04-13g.Im currently running 10psi on it.So if I were to go F/I on my truck,it would def be a turbo set-up.

It would be cool to have a smallish turbo on a 283 though. |
Re: Forced Induction
that centrifugal supercharger is made by procharger. Here's some more pics/specs.

Re: Forced Induction
Does anyone know what the part on top of the carburator ( in the above picture ) is called? I have been trying to fine one of these for my carburator. Thanks

Re: Forced Induction
^^^ thats not a turbo, its a centrifugal supercharger. works almost just like a turbo charger though.....also that is a blow through design setup for the carb.
|
Re: Forced Induction
the only thing that i don't like about forced induction setups is dropping the compression. if you don't do that then you'll blow the motor apart. i don't think that having rods sticking out of the bottom of the pan is a good thing.

Re: Forced Induction
Turbocharging is the way to go! Setup right, theres no turbo lag, its quiet until you step on the skinny pedal, and they are more efficient. Unlike centrifugals, you will build full boost, almost instantly and all at once if the turbo is sized right. With a centrifugal the boost is linear, the more RPMS, the more boost. Torque comes on sooner with turbos, which makes it more fun. :) Harder to package, more underhood heat, and hard to get working with a carb are their only drawbacks. But many places setup carbs for blowthrough applications. Just call up pro-charger and they will give you some shops as they pushed the intercooled carb'd kits very heavily when they came out.

Re: Forced Induction
Yah the drawbacks with turbos are kinda minor once you see the outcome from the power. The guy I know that builds kits actually has had several projects where he was running daily on stock internals and CR. Personally I wouldnt mind just building a motor from scratch though and boosting the hell out of it...Im sure a 2.5k budget would work wonders for some descent hp numbers.

Re: Forced Induction
we're gonna twin-turbo our C10 (Mustard-butt); with Garret turbos; keeping the "stock" 250 inline6

Re: Forced Induction
I have a 383 with a Weiand 177 blower..

Re: Forced Induction
suzq004, how exactly are u guys ognna do this, i have a 250 an have always loved turbos, esecially twins...

Re: Forced Induction
Clicking on that link sure woke me up this morning! :hit:

Re: Forced Induction
hahahaha, yah my avatar there is pretty nice eh? Yah my buddy Reed, the guy with the turbo hotrods knows his stuff. you see the flathead twin turbo setup hes got going on? sooooo insane! Best thing is that all are pretty much stock motors and can be put to daily use!

Got a procharger on my 68.in my opinion works just aswell as single or twin turbo setups i have drivin in the past, sure you have to build a motor to handle it but, who in there right mind would complain about making a engine with less compression to start out with, when u can run more boost and thats the whole purpose, personally it sounds smarter to me to have a 8:1 big block with a supercharger at 14 PSI making 800 hp than a 12:1 big block naturally aspirated making 550hp its pretty affordable power when u think about it.my 496 makes 750hp at 8 psi if i upgrade my headgaskets to even better then now the boost possibilitys are crazy when your talkin about a supercharger that will handle 40PSI next year im shootin for 900hp,just my opinion tho turbos and superchargers are great.rob
