Finally the ´89 blazer frontend is on!
5 Attachment(s)
Finally my buddy and me finished the frontend of my truck that now has the looks of an ´89 blazer.
I bought the whole radiatorsupport with the headlights and grill about 2 years ago.(how time flies,tsetsetse......) The fact that my ´81 singleheadlamp radiatorsupport was in and painted and in exellent shape helped in deciding what to do.I sold the rusted blazerpiece and kept the grill and headlights. We created some frames for the lights and made them adjustable. The metall behind the lamps was cut open and got some edgeguards. We glued the turnsignalhousings to the headlightbezels and boom there you are!Only 20 hours of measuring, cutting, welding, grinding and painting! We had to work on the bezels to make everything look good because the original headlamps are smaller than the ones i use but i love how it came out.Now i have to get a new bowtie because the previous owner cut it out and had leds in it wich looked like crap and didn´t work either! Enough said- NOW PICTURES Attachment 304218 Attachment 304219 Attachment 304220 Attachment 304221 Attachment 304222 |

Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!
Killer job bud now ya need to install a nice polished billit grille to finish it off :metal:
I have now doubt that has gotta be the best and baddest Bow tie in the Deutsche Land. And i'll bet everyone driving a Smart car that see you in there rear view gets outta the way quick:metal: |
Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!
That turned out nice. I like the larger headlights much better than the small ones. Maybe you should sell a kit....:)

Grest job! Terry |
Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!
Looks REALLY sharp! By the way, what kind of mirrors are those? They sure are different!

Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!
Killer job on that! I'm with these guys. The bigger headlights do look a ton better than the smaller ones! You should at least post up the material list and some measurements on this! I currently have the single headight grille in mine as well. It might be worth spending some time on mine to do the same thing. ...Joe

great work!

Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!
I´m surprised that many of you guys like the larger lights!
We thought about making a kit but overhere there would be no market for that and selling overseas would be a little crazy because there are so many customshops and good craftsmen! And yes i think with me in the rearview all the smart(ies) around will be pretty scared! There are quiet a few trucks of this vintage in ;) Deutsche Land but the most of them are ex army trucks (K 30) or short stepsides.Other than that the blazer and suburbans are more popular so that mine will hopefully make it´s way in a magazinfeature and maybe even get a trophy on the ´08 Wheels Nationals!? I thought about a billetgrill but that´s not in my budget in the moment. As for a materiallist and the measurements shouldn´t be a problem but i´ll do that in metric and than try to convert it to inches.Just give me a bit time! Thanks for all your words.I appreciate that very much! |
Re: Finally the ´89 blazerfrontend is on!

The mirrors are from RPC and are stainless steel. They look slick but you can´t see too much in them so that i have to think them over. I like the factory sport mirrors but the set i bought from LMC were cheap plastic parts that weren´t satisfying at all! that looks like an awsome conversion. Are you using hella e code headlights? I´ll go have a look at them tonight and try to find out the exact partdescribtion or number! |
Re: Finally the ´89 blazer frontend is on!
hey man what headlights did you use? I'm curious. and how did you go about measuring and placing the headlights in the proper spot?
|
Re: Finally the ´89 blazer frontend is on!
The headlights are HELLA E Code,i´ll post a detail picture later! We used flatsteel 40 mm wide and 3 mm thick. After holding the lightbezel in place to see if it fitted right we modified it to get the bigger lights in.It´s tight because they shouldn´t touch each other! The outer light sits a little inward so we made two pieces of steel and welded them together to get a frame for the lights so they fitted right to the bezel.By holding the bezel in its place with the lights we measured the distance to the radiatorsupport at all 4 edges and made some steelpieces that we welded to the frame and then drilled the holes to bolt the unit to the radiatorsupport. The lights are adjustable in all directions. We made threaded holes in the frames and two from three lightmounts are adjustable. We cut the radiatorpanel open behind the lights just enough to get the adjusters through and leave enough metal to bolt the frames to!The turnsignalhousing is glued to the bezel with special two component bond. That was the easiest task!
The lightframes are very tight to the fenders and measuring wasn´t easy in some places but we don´t fear anything anymore since everything we touched came out very nice and functions properly! |
