Blazer tank question

when putting a blazer tank at rear of 67-72 truck, do you actually have to use the straps to hang the tank on the rails or can tank be mounted between frame rails and still clear the bed? looks kind of gaudy to me hangin down there by the straps.

Re: Blazer tank question

I think the general theory is that a non-stock style tank (aluminum, SS or steel) that is a box with angle mounts welded on, can the bolted to the frame without straps. The stock style 'clamshell' tanks use the flange location as a seam between the top and bottom halves. There is concern that the direct bolting of the 'clamshell' to the frame, at the seam, will cause extra stress at the seam and provide a point of failure. This is especially true in an accident situation. The straps help disturbute the load across the tank floor.
