I am looking at a 71 cheyenne stepside with tire on the fender.
it has power steer-power brakes air wood bed-very minimal rust on surface.IS $10000 a crazy price?this person wont neg.

I have a stupid question,.... Were all cheyenne trucks fleetsides? Did they actually make a "stepside" version from the factory? Someone that knows please chime in! Thanks.

Yes, there were cheyenne stepsides. As far as price, what else has been done to it? Frame off? New motor? Rebuilt motor?

Personally, 10K seems high for that truck. I don't like the term "surface rust." There could be bondo covered holes under "surface rust."

BUT it looks like a real nice starter truck that you can jump in and drive. It looks to be more in the 6-7K range to me...

Can you get us some more photos? Maybe one of the SPID in the glove box (option sheet)
For 10K, it better be VERY nice... I would expect little no no rust, I would expect unmolested, perfectly maintained.

There's market value, and what some one is willing to pay. Sometimes, they go hand in hand, generally, a seller sees market value from watching barret jackson, and a buyer sees it from what sells locally... or rather, what WON'T sell locally.

this is a copy of the spid-this truck is un restored in original condition which is what I wanted.I know for another $5000 I could get one already done.I was also looking at a 70 cst for 6500 but no power brack or ac.the Cheyenne has both

I sold the twinkie to the one your looking at for 14,000 Looking back I should have asked for more. Mine was just a touch cleaner, but not by much. I would try and talk him down to 9000 - 9500, but I would insult him by picking it apart either. If he wouldn't budge I would buy for 10,000. Her e are pics of my old one.

A truck that looks like that around here, at least what I see from the pics, I've seen going for 3500-7500 depending owner. It looks like you will need to replace the cab corner. Check the rockers/floors/floor braces/kick panels. I think the 10k is a little high, but again you are in New York, and the prices in general are usually higher in NE USA than in the NW USA.

Unless it's a lot worse than it looks, it's maybe just a little high for my market area, but not a whole lot.

People are combing the Ozarks around here & South Missouri looking for these trucks, and the good untouched originals are really getting hard to find.

If you've been looking for a while, and you feel like it's a fair deal for your area, I'd go for it, full speed ahead, and then don't look back.

When are you ever going to find another one that good to equal it ???

I see AC outlets, but no AC listed on the SPID

if that rust is the worst of it... then it may well be worth it. Even more so if that is original paint.

from what i see in your pictures it appears that the truck is a typical long island pieced together mutt// didnt come from the factory it didnt have power brakes its got an ac cab but didnt come from the factory with ac throw in the body rot bubbling thru the bondo i'd suggest going over it real well with a magnet before offering up around 5K max on it
is the ac system there and woirking?

I agree that the A/C cab is questionable. If the vents were cut in it could be original paint, but if they are factory AC holes the cab was swapped over.
Another thing to look at is the mirror holes on the doors. The SPID says it came with West Coast JR mirrors, but it has the sport mirrors on it now. if the paint hasn't been touched you should have mirror holes in the doors still.

The mirrors are definately mounted wrong. Maybe they are hiding the holes.

bit high in my opinion. think 7500 to 8500 is fair.

however you are in NY. I have sold a couple of restored Triumphs up there for top dollar. seems everything runs a bit high on the east coast.

nice truck though..... partial to steppers!!

I agree with Cliff, with that bubble I'd check every inch of it. Before I spent 10K there would be no rust!! Mines a fleet in '86 I gave 3K and no rust and after 20 yrs still no rust. Unless you really want that one, shop around you might find a better one.

I just talked to him on the phone, and that truck is actually in GA. But he found a MUCH nicer one for not much more.
Like I told him, this stepside had too many things that don't seem right, and the whole truck... as pictured, gives me a bad feeling. If it were 5 grand, I'd say heck yeah... but at 10k.... i don't think so.
He has a family member goin to look at it tomrow... I really wonder if the SPID vin matches the door jamb VIN.

I thought the relative already looked at it.I guess those pictureswere sent by the owner.Brian,that thing is not factory paint.That cab corner rust is a previous repair coming back.The mirrors aren`t original and are mounted in a unique position.I believe the wood in the bed has been replaced.This truck was prolly built in the early`90s and is going downhill again.These trucks are going too high due to ignorance of buyers/seller not really knowing what`s up.If this truck is a true Cheyenne non-a/c Stepside in the condition it appears in than it`s about a $3,500-4,500 truck.The same truck as a Custom would be more like $1,000 less or 1/3.If it had air and was intact as left factory,$4,500-6,000.If it had no rust and was an original survivor,$6,000-8,000.If that truck was gone over and resold as it sits it would get around $8,500 max.
