Are there trucks in your town you have your eye on....

I know we all have a similar story.......Saw it for the second time yesterday, no time to chase him down. A 67 1ton dump truck....body(cab) is surprisingly straight..I know out west it might not be that rare to see, but here in PA to even see a 1967 truck on the road is rare, let alone actually still being used as a work truck....I need a dumper...

Interesting that you mention that...There's a 69 or 70 1 ton dumpy here in my town too that I've been keepin an eye on. I doubt he'll ever sell though..just a hunch i get when I see his yard.

theres a pretty nice solid original shortstep 71 6cyl auto no power that i go past everyday// the guy only uses it maybe a couple of days a month for doing yard work and cleaning up his rental properties and the owner says he cant afford to get rid of it

I have the same dilema....About 15 years ago I spotted an awesome Sierra Grande/camper special in black locally. Well come to find out it belonged to a guy I played football with in highschools grandmother. It is black and still has plastic on the middle seatbelt. It has less than 60,000 original miles and is in perfect condition. She hasn't drove it in 15 years, but still goes out and starts it twice a week and moves up and down the driveway. I have asked once a month for the last 15 years to buy it and still no luck....I'll try and post pics if she will let me take some.

I bought the one I kept an eye on for 6 months. It disappeared about 3 weeks before I got out of school and went to work making real money, then it reappeared about 3 months later, so I bought it.

I have one.... it's been sitting on Pelham road for at least 4 years that I've seen it... it's a 69-72 (can't see the grill from the road because of the angle, but I can tell the hood is square) and it's a swb fleetside! It looks really solid too.

Also funny you should mention that because there is a 69 or 70 1 ton dump for sale just a few miles from the shop. The guy is asking $2500 obo and its been there a few weeks. I stopped and looked at it one morning out of curiosity but was running late and didnt have a lot of time to look over it. It looks pretty solid and it has 292 badges. I did tap on the pass cab corner and it sounded like it was full of plastic.

HA, THat is funny. I was working last night and we made a gas leak inside someones house. Got there and the stove had been left on. While looking for the hot water tank (gas too) we made our way into the garage and there was a great looking '53 Chevy truck with original blue paint and no rust at all!! It was covered with so much junk you could barely see it, but it was last registered and inspected in '98. The rockers and cab corners and fenders all looked awesome and rust free. After talking with the owner (the wife) she said, "if it was up to me I'd give it to you." "It's in my way and I want to fix up this old house" Her husband was out of town (trucker) and she took my number and told me she would call him and see if he would please get rid of that old truck! I told her to let me know and I would be back with a trailer and cash in hand. I said, "it would sure help you get started on fixing up the house." We will see what happens! Keep your fingers crossed.

I have two - one is kiddy corner up the street from my old house - '72 short fleet - all original - shiny beautiful black paint, 42k on it - guy put a 350 crate in about 4 years ago because "he didn't know how to work on engines and wanted a new one" - anywho, his wife said she will let me know when SHE gets ready to sell it..hahaha I sold the house to a buddy of mine just to keep a peep in the neighborhood!
The 2nd, my wife has seen 3 times in town - a 71 or 72 fire engine red Chevy car hauler - she said it was bright and the chrome shined - even the hauler part was all chromed - I can't seem to catch it and don't want to wreck just to see if it shows up. Afterwards, she said she didn't want to tell me about it because I'm not dragging anything else into the yard until something else is gone....

There's a 71-72 SWB CST BIG BLOCK with Buckets and OG paint that's been sitting for at least 6 years. I talked to the guy about 3 years ago and he said he was going to "fix it up." Still sitting there....

A few houses down from him is a 56 F100 shorty that's been sitting at least as long as the Chevy...

I stopped and and talked to a guy about a '67 LWB Chevy.

It is sandwiched between two trees that have it pinned in.
It is still in excellent (body) shape otherwise it seems. Good front end, rest is junk I think. Other than that - it's slim pickin's around here.

Re: Are there trucks in your town you have your eye on....

My Blazer was on that I watched for a long time. Would see it driving around ever couple of months but could never get a close look. Finally saw it leaving a parking lot one morning with a for sale sign in the back window and I chased the guy a couple of miles before he stopped at a gas station. I think he thought I was crazy. By the end of the day, I was the proud owner, and at a price I couldn't beat.

Watching what I think is a c20 with a camper that just got pulled into someones yard now.

I've got my eye on a 71 or 72 SWB 1/2 ton 4x4. It appears to be a Cheyenne
Super 10, if the badges on it are correct.

I stopped and looked at it last week. I don't even know if it's for sale yet because the owner wasn't home. Looks like it's been sitting for a little while. I sure would like to persuade the current owner that it needs a new owner....namely ME!

Re: Are there trucks in your town you have your eye on....

They is a 1971 Cheyenne Super LWB with about 78,000 miles on it. About a mile from my house. It has been sitting under the carport since I think 1998. Hasn't been moved, it needs a good wash and wax. The interior still looks new. My wife knows the family that has it, the owners both have died, and it's left to the kids. She said they will not sell it, so I haven't asked them about it. I need to though.

Re: Are there trucks in your town you have your eye on....

I haven't seen it for a few years, but there was a guy who had a C-50 dump truck, with a Custom Cab. I believe it was a '67 or 8. It was turquoise with a white top. All of the Custom trim badges were in place and it had a set of ALCOA wheels on it. It was very, very clean, especially considering he was hauling asphalt with it.

Nearby, there are a pair of '67 or 68's. Both are LWB.....and just sitting. Guy owns several dump trucks (not the one above).

Saw a yellow '68 SWB today, that is for sale. It's been restified. Aftermarket wheels. Nice from 50-ft away. I need to stop and eyeball it....and check on the '68's above.

The guy doing my '69 has acquired an amalgamation of parts that is assembled on a Blazer chassis. The cab/front cap is 68. The hood is 69-72, but will have to be swapped for the right one. The bed is a short step and the fenders indicate the bed to be anywhere from '55 to 66. Of course the bed is shortened and whoever did it just lopped off the front of the bed, including the steps. It'll take some work to make it sharp, but my boy will make it happen. He's a metal wizard.

There is a old lady and her son that have a 72 Longhorn and it is beautiful. They won't fix it or sell it. I just want to go nuts and the fact they won't part with it yet makes me want it more. It just sits there on the side of there house. It has no carb. Great post and good topic. My real dream is a 68 Suburbin.:)

My '69 C/10 fits this description. The guy that originally restored it (in 1990) decided he was going to sell sometime around 2001-2002, and I was going to buy it, but he decided afterwards to keep it. Fast forward to 2005 and a local mechanic bought it, and was driving it. Last summer he decided to sell it, so when I heard about it, I went up there to buy it, and it was already sold to a guy I know that restores 30's and 40's hot rods (He didn't know I wanted it, so he didn't run under me or anything) He planned to fix the 2 small dents it has acquired since 1990, and have it repainted. I figured I had missed my shot, but I ran into his son about 3 months ago, and I asked about the truck. He said his dad was thinking about selling it, so I went to the bank that day and withdrew a chunk of change and headed to his shop. We hammered out a price, and bought it on the spot. I tried for almost 6 years to buy this truck, and it's MINE now! - lol

There is a 65 el camino I have to see every morning when I drop off my little girl at school. Every time I see the owner around I ask her to let me know when she decides to part with it.
