Stand alone transmission computers are available now, pricey but available.

What tranny does it have?

1/2 ton or 3/4 ton donor truck?

If it we me, I'd keep the over-drive tranny and do whatever it takes to make it work.

bdas70chevy,

If your trans is original, it should be a 4L60-E. It is basically a computer controlled version of the 700R4. You will need to remove the tail section and replace the output shaft with one from Advanced Adapters that will work with your 205 transfer case. Also, you will need a high pressure inline fuel pump and a return fuel line installed. Your stock computer will need to be reprogrammed to get rid of the code that you will not be using for emissions and anti theft modes.

I am thinking of the doing the a similar swap using a complete rolling chassis from a 1999 Tahoe. I have found a place called BTB Products the does a lot of these swaps and has most of the parts and services to help you out. Also , Howell Engine Development has a lot what you need, but I have yet to talk to them and see how complete their services are.

Well what did you find out? I called Howell yesterday, and they seemed pretty knowledgeable about what I needed. Also, I called Advanced Adapter and found the rest of the parts that Howell did not have. I plan on getting the harness and computer from Howell and most likely the inline fuel pump as well. The output shaft and VSS/ tail shaft adapter will come from Advanced. The only other issue that I need to address is the return line into the gas tank. Otherwise, this should be a reasonable swap and much more drivable then the big block that I have now.

What was the price of the adapter for the tranny? what about the trans bracket? i need to jump into it but having a hard time finding time,

You have couple of options for shifters. I think that Lokar makes a bracket that will work with you stock column shifter and the cable of the 4L60-E. The other option is going with a floor mounted shifter. I personally would not mess with the steering column from the donor rig, the wiring hassle alone would keep me from doing it. The trans adapter needed are a output shaft ($172) and a tail shaft adapter ($276) . Those are the ones that I need to go from my Turbo 350 to the 4L60-E with a bell housing to. The shock Turbo 350 to NP-205 is still needed as part of the conversion. Since your trans came out of a 2wd, I would check with advanced to see if there is anything different needed.
