are 77-80 tailgates the same as 81-87?

i need a new tailgate and was wondering if this 77-80 tailgate will fit my 87 bed. i know some of the older gates have a diffrent location for the latche mechanism than the newer one, im just not sure what years do.

I believe that it'll fit. You will need the trunnions for the earlier gate as well as the hinges. The earlier 73-76 were different, but the 77-80 should be fine. ...Joe
