Help with clamshell mount stands in a 71

I am trying to install the later model motor mount stands in my 71 pickup, the top two bolts line up on the top of the c frame, but the two on the X-member do not. Can I drill the holes and mount it like that and maintain the correct geometry?

So why do the newer style engine mount stands need to have its bolt holes elongated for the mount? It wont bolt up correctly without some adjustment or what???

Ok, after a short hiatus I have picked up my project. I followed the thread's instructions and got the engine stabbed, I am now having a problem with the tranny contacting the floor pan when the X-member and trans mount is installed, I have contact where floor pan meets the firewall, and the tailshaft contacts the floor pan. Should I loosen the mounts, lift the engine and see if the engine will sit down some, or modify my X-member to bring the mounting point down some? I need about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to
clear the floor pan.

What transmission? If a TH400, you will need the bolt-in high hump. I have the 73-up stands in my '70 with a 700R4 with no floorpan clearance problems.

Re: Help with clamshell mount stands in a 71

I am using a TH350 out of a 79 suburban. The cross member I found was off a 69 or 70 GMC that had a 350/TH350, whether it was original I dont know. My 71 was originally a six cyl with a 3spd manual, I had to cut out the riveted in crossmember because of how far forward it was, now that you mention it, I think it was lower in the center, however I trashed it. Can you please describe the "high hump" part of this crossmember?
