Hood Locks
I have seen the FAQ on this of the cable install. I am more interested in something that locks the hood latch and that you can key. I have heard some are cheap too...can be disabled easily. Because the way I figure it...if they want to steal something they won't hesitate to break a window and pull the hood latch to get into the engine compartment.
Anyone have a hood lock they installed on their truck? |

ever see a guy with fire extinguisher in hand tryin to put out an underhood fire while fumbling with the key on his hood lock??

what about disabling it by removing the steering wheel, Grant makes a kit that allows you to quickly remove your wheel, their motto, is no wheel no steal, I priced it one time , forgot the price. Anything to slow em down, splice a cut out switch in your ignition ckt. ?? Not sure of the hood cable idea, I would agree w/you, if they want it , they will break window and pull hood.

cdowns makes an excellent point and one that should be considered!!!
I was driving an old Vette once that caught fire and I pulled over and ran through this guys gate and grabbed his hose and that saved the day not to mention the Vette. Wire harness made contact with the manifold and that is all it took. Point is a lock would have cost me the Vette. If a guy really wants to steal your ride he's going to take it. At best all you can do is slow him down. Oh by the way from my experience this brings a new meaning to the word "PANIC." esll. :) |

after getting my air cleaner stolen in high shool i made some brackets so that i could put a padlock on it, worked great and couldent be seen, took it off after i lowerd it though because i got tired of hitting my head on it. very simple to do though just need some 1/8" by1" flatbar and a drill

I have seen a hood release that normally goes in the cab put in the space in between the door and fender, can only be accessed when the door is open.
sorry I don't have a pic, but using a common release in an uncommon (=hidden)spot may be just the thing for ya! |M| |

it was a normal pull handle, but it was oriented vertically instead of horizontally. it was right next to the pin in the door that turns on the dome light when you open the door.
in my truck I spliced a momentary push button inline with the ignition, so you have to hold down the button while you turn the key, otherwise, nothing happens(well the radio will turn on!) the button right above the brake release] http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b6...l/IMG_7105.jpg not exactly a hidden button, but would prolly work better( as theft deterrent) if it was actually Under the dash..... |M| |

I came across a hood lock in a junk yard a while back. It used a key, like a soda machine, mounted under the dash with a cable going to the catch assembly under the hood. Never figured out what company made it, but you might be able to rig something similar.
